Among the attractions in downtown, you can find the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District, as well as other museums and spaces, you can find Las Olas Boulevard, a street that works like a big open tour, suited for window shopping and gallery visiting.

The main walking tour area is between 1st Avenue and 17th Street; but a couple blocks away from there, you will find the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and the Museum of Science and Discovery.

When you go out and about on Las Olas Boulevard, you will find all kinds of dining spots and eateries, bakehouses, cafes, ice cream parlors, restaurants, bars, pubs and many other options. When we went to Las Olas Boulevard, we had lunch at Louie Bossi´s.

Besides the dining spots, you will find tons of antique galleries, art galleries and other arts and cultural spots that are free to visit, so you can take a look, and if you are into something, you can even buy a painting or something you liked. One of the spots we most enjoyed was the National Geographic gallery, which includes several photographs that were featured in the magazine.

I mentioned window shopping, so of course, there are a lot of shops, independent stores, boutiques and mom and pop stores, changing the scenery from the traditional mall plaza or shopping mall we are so used to see everywhere in the States. You can also find consignment stores to find designer handbags or accessories at an affordable price.

Moving around Las Olas Boulevard is nice and relaxed, you won´t get too much direct sun, as there are lots of trees giving shade and coverage, but you can also hop on the Sun Trolley for just one buck a ride, or ride unlimited for three bucks; and it can take you all the way to Lauderdale by the Sea in the North, and Fort Lauderdale International Airport in the South.

A good option for a budget family time while on vacation in Fort Lauderdale (unless you decide to go on an art shopping spree); and a nice tour to walk around and leave the car behind for a while.
It can be as fast as a one hour walk, or as long as a full day checking galleries, dining spots, museums and more.
