martha-stewart-michael-kors-interview-quotes-showDid you watch today´s Martha Stewart Show?

Project Runway judge and renowned fashion designer, Michael Kors came prepared for today’s edition of THE MARTHA STEWART SHOW (Hallmark Channel, 10 AM ET/9 AM C – same day encore airing, 2 PM ET/next day airing, 1 PM ET).  On the special ‘Thanksgiving Dessert Show’ Michael channeled his glamorous Grandma Bea, described as “Very Martha,” by passing along her Pineapple Upside Down Cake recipe.  Martha called Michael out for having to brush up on his baking skills before the taping, but as Michael explained “I had to be Martha ready…but ended up having my own Lucille Ball moment, with sugar flying everywhere, it was crazy!”  During the show, Michael gave a sneak peek of his luxurious 2011 Resort line, along with some of the photos from his trip out West that inspired them.  Martha could not believe Michael’s fashion faux pas while riding a horse, “But you have sneakers on?! You don’t even have riding boots? You’re supposed to be a fashion icon!”

Martha Stewart and Michael Kors´ Best Quotes of the Day

On Michael Kors’ Grandma Bea:

Martha Stewart:  You’re going to make Grandma Bea’s Pineapple Upside Down Cake.  Now Grandma Bea, I saw this picture of her…How elegant is she?
Michael Kors:  She was a glamorous Grandma.  She was a glamour Bea.
MS:  Was she like an Auntie Mame kind of type?
MK:  First off, she was a junior-high school principal, but at the same time she was a fashionista.  She was a real juggler.  She was very Martha.  And she was a great cook!

On Michael’s Lucille Ball Moment:

MS:  Now you were practicing this yesterday I heard.
MK:  I practiced, yes.  I wanted to make sure that I was going to be Martha-ready.  Unfortunately, I had an I Love Lucy moment.
MS:  Can you imagine Michael Kors, one of our top, top, top designers practicing for our show?
MK: Yeah, and I had more of a Lucille Ball moment.  Sugar flying everywhere, it was crazy.

On Michael’s fashion faux pas:

MS:  A little later on, we are going to get a very special preview of the resort collection, all inspired by a trip you took.
MK:  Yeah, an amazing trip I took out West.  And I’m the last person you’d imagine on a horse.  I think we might have a picture.  I’m an urban kind of boy but…
MS:  Oh, there you are.  Look!  But you have sneakers on.  You don’t even have riding boots?
MK:  I know!  I didn’t realize I was riding until I got there.
MS: You’re supposed to be a fashion icon!
MK:  I know.  Well you know, fashion icon in sneakers.  What can I tell you?

Michael on his inspiration for the 2011 Resort line:

MS:  Let’s take a look at some of your beautiful designs.  What inspired you?
MK: We were talking before, I took a trip out west to a gorgeous hotel called the Amangiri.  And we started thinking about how do you do sustainable things that are still luxurious.  This is all organic cashmere.  And I love this time of year to wear a cozy cardigan like that.  And you know what?  It’s easy to pack, comfortable and sexy, all at the same time.

Michael on his must-have pieces for Fall:

MS:  And what is the one piece of clothing that we all have to have this fall?
MK:  Well you know, I think it’s definitely two things.  I can never say one.  One piece of clothing:  A camel coat for sure, it’s the season for camel.  And a great saddle or luggage colored handbag.  I like something that’s a little uptown, a little downtown.  You know like Grace Kelly goes rock and roll.  That’s really what it’s all about.
