martha-stewart-michelle-obama-hallmarkFolks at Hallmark Channel are preparing “Martha Stewart Presents: America’s Moms- A Celebration Of Military Families With Michelle Obama And Jill Biden,” premiering Sunday, May 8th  at 8pm ET/PT, 7C.

Both first and second ladies Michelle Obama and Jill Biden were with Sesame Street crew lately as a part of the Joining Forces initiative. Well, now they will both be joining Martha Stewart for a Mother´s Day Special in the synonim to family television network: Hallmark.

On Sunday, May 8th (8 p.m. ET/PT, 7c), Hallmark Channel will join with Martha Stewart in a celebration of military families in a new primetime special,   “Martha Stewart Presents: America’s Moms-A Celebration of Military Families with Michelle Obama and Jill Biden.”  In this Hallmark Channel Original Mother’s Day Special Event, host Martha Stewart will sit-down with two of America’s most prominent moms, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden.

In the latest installment of the ‘Martha Stewart Presents’ franchise, Martha has a moving and thought-provoking conversation with Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden over their appreciation and commitment to members of the military and their families. Martha also embarks on an in-depth discussion with these two iconic women about what is one of the world’s most difficult jobs, motherhood, along with the challenges of raising a family in front of the entire country.

Taped at North Carolina’s Camp Lejeune, the special (www.marthastewart.com/americas-moms) documents the launch of the ‘Joining Forces’ initiative honoring America’s service members and their families and casting a supportive spotlight on America’s military wives and mothers. As part of the hour-long special, Martha, a mother and now grandmother, delves deep into motherhood and gets up close and personal with three expectant women whose husbands are currently in combat zones in Afghanistan.  She hears firsthand from Rachel Carne (Jacksonville, FL), Tiffany Lowe (Corydon, IN) and Ashley Thomas (Dayton, OH) about the unique challenges they face in keeping their families connected from afar.

During the special, Martha joins the wives of the nation’s top two leaders in what is being billed as the world’s largest baby shower of military moms-to-be, hosting 40 expectant women whose deployed husbands are not able to share in this special time in their lives.  Martha brings her own how-to techniques to this incredible gathering of women by teaching them the art of scrapbooking, a way preserve memories to ensure that returning military dads are able to relive the precious moments.  The event also sheds light on Operation Shower, a non-profit organization that honors the military families make by hosting unit-wide baby showers for expectant mothers in a deployment or high stress situation.  And Martha leaves her own special momento at Camp Lejeune by planting a beautiful Southern Magnolia tree in front of the military facility’s Naval Hospital. Honoring all of the babies born in 2011 at Camp Lejeune, this special gift is accepted by Colonel Daniel Lecce, the Base Commanding Officer, and Captain Daniel Zinder, Commanding Officer of the Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune.

Commenting on what she’s learned from military families, First Lady Michelle Obama, said: “Watching these men and women who stay behind and do it with such grace and dignity, it just makes me want to do my job even better and take care of my kids, but make that sure I’m contributing to the broader community and juggling like those women are juggling, and doing it without complaining, and realizing the blessings that these positions offer, and not wallowing in the minor inconveniences that come along with it. Those women show me how to be better at what I’m doing.”

Martha Stewart said: “Visiting Camp Lejeune was an extraordinary experience and having the opportunity to speak with Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden was a true honor.  Both women have made it a primary objective to bring attention to the challenges faced by military families everywhere in the world.” She added: “On military bases everywhere, there are many women going through pregnancy and childbirth without their spouses and we can learn a lot from them and the sacrifices they make while their husbands are away serving their country. I hope we brought them a bit of joy by recognizing their enormous contributions, and by teaching them how they can continue to make memories for their families while their loved ones are deployed.”
