Complete Recap and Spoilers of Saving Grace 2×14 – I Believe in Angels

Rhetta tells Grace what her family is doing to help get the governor’s attention about pardoning Leon. They walk into a convenience store. There’s a gunshot, the glass breaks and Grace slumps to the ground, hit. Clay walks up and gets something from a nearby vending machine. He doesn’t hear Rhetta’s screams. Grace wakes up on her couch. There’s knocking at her door. It’s Rhetta, panicked. She just had a horrible dream about Grace. They compare notes. Same convenience store. Grace had a red sucker and everything. They had the same dream. Grace tries to chalk it up to them both having watched the violent “Godfather” last night. And then Rhetta notices a red sucker in Grace’s hair.

As Rhetta picks the sucker out they notices a few discrepancies. Clay wasn’t in Rhetta’s and there was no dog in a yellow mustang. Grace also saw a young black woman with a nose ring. Rhetta saw the man who shot her, a white guy with blond hair. It’s just like when she met Leon, it was a dream for him but real for her. In Rhetta’s dream they weren’t talking about Leon. Grace finds the shirt she was wearing in the dream and gives it to Rhetta to test.

Leon is brought into the death house. Earl is there. He wants to talk about a couple friends of his that he’ll be meeting soon. Leon has less than 35 hours left. Earl tells Leon he’ll meet two angels who will ask him about his religion.

Grace visits Clay on his way to school. Clay thinks it’ll take a miracle to save Leon. He hides a tape from Grace.

Ham looks over his divorce papers. It’s final. Bobby and Butch check on him, feigning concern. They’ve already posted a dating profile of him – naked.

Grace and Rhetta visit the convenience store from their dream. The girl with the nose ring is there. Rhetta faints and the girl runs.

Grace revives Rhetta, who tells her that Leon wants to see her. Grace remembers what Earl said a few weeks ago about “it all starting to unfold.” She thinks he meant this.

Grace says the nose ring girl had a bloody nose in her dream. She fishes out the trash bag, asking Rhetta to go through it. She thinks if she finds the girl, her life will change forever.

Grace finds the guys at a murder scene. An elderly woman killed a young male intruder. Grace tells Ham she’s going to take some time off. She checks that he’s doing ok. They hold hands secretly for a minute.

Johnny visits with Leon, telling him he thinks the governor will meet with him. Leon wishes he’d made the video begging for clemency like Johnny asked. Johnny tells Leon to pray. Leon thinks his faith isn’t strong enough because he’s scared. Johnny says that just makes him human.

The elderly woman, Mrs. Wilson, tells Butch about killing the intruder. Her grandson was staying with her because her husband died recently and she’d been hearing noises. She came home on her way to Bingo to get her glasses and heard a noise. She grabbed her shotgun, “baby” from the hall closet and saw the intruder. She told him if he moved she’d blast him. He did, so she did. Then Bobby comes in saying there was a similar shooting at her house a while ago. He asks about it. Grace goes through a mug book looking for the nose ring girl. She and Ham talk about the fact Mr. Wilson killed an intruder with Baby five years ago. Ham tells Grace he didn’t live up to the idea he had of himself. He went to church on Sunday and the sermon was about broken promises. He asks Grace if she believes in heaven and hell. She asks if he believes in angels. She does.

Grace goes home, calling for Earl, but it’s Clay. The TV is on. He borrowed one of her tapes, like the one his dad has. It’s of his baptism. They watch it. Clay asks who Earl is.

As Grace keeps watching the tape she sees Leon at the baptism party, chatting with her sister Mary Francis.

Grace visits Rhetta in the lab. She thinks the intruder’s shirt doesn’t quite have the right blood stains on it. Rhetta found a bloody tissue in the trash. Traces of meth. She worked with a sketch artist to get a drawing of the man she saw shoot Grace in her dream. He has a scar on his face. Grace has one of the nose ring girl, plus a drawing of a lion’s head decal that was on their truck. It belongs to a local high school.

Grace is frustrated Earl isn’t coming by. She’s a little freaked out by everything.

Butch and Bobby talk to Mrs. Wilson’s son. He’s mad they questioned his mother for six hours and are now talking to his son.

Ham talks to the grandson, who knew where she kept her jewelry. He knows about the “Make My Day” law, his grandmother taught him. Her son says the family’s been trying to move her, as has a mall developer. She’s the lone hold out in the neighborhood. The other intruder killed was also an electrician like the latest victim. The team, minus Grace, tries to figure out just what happened. Henry the coroner says the victim died with his arms at his sides.

Grace looks over mug shots on the computer at work. Earl finally appears. He says he knows God has a plan for her, Leon, Rhetta and nose ring girl, but he doesn’t know what it is. Grace says she’s scared. She’s one of 12,700,000-some in the history of the world who ever got their own last chance angel. Earl says God doesn’t make mistakes.

Grace visits Leon. He knew Mary Francis (whose last name was Norman). He met her one night when he stopped to change her tire in the rain. He says she was a nice lady. Grace tells him she was her sister.

Grace shows the tape to Rhetta, who can’t believe it.

Grace calls the governor’s secretary every 15 minutes, asking to speak with him. Then she tries someone who knows the secretary. She used to date one of his security guards, but he moved to Canada. Grace gets someone to fax the governor’s itinerary to her.

The guys and Perry keep working the case. Mrs. Wilson had bad eyesight, which might explain why she thought Jackson Judd was raising his hands. Butch comes in saying that Mr. Wilson, who was hit by a bus six days ago, was counseling someone at church – Judd.

Ham’s now-ex Darlene drops in, with a copy of the beefcake dating profile of him. She’s upset. He apologizes for it, and everything. Darlene asks if he’s sure he loves “her.” He says yes. She asks if “she” loves him. He doesn’t know. Grace calls.

Grace waits for an SUV. She gets out and stops it with her badge, saying she needs to talk to him. She knows the security guard who approaches her. He hated Canada. He listens to her plea and lets Grace in the car for a chat.

Rhetta and Johnny tell Leon that Grace talked to the governor, who said he’d take what she said into consideration. They’re sure Grace is coming to be his one visitor before he dies. He gives Rhetta a letter to give to his son. As the guard ends the visit, he thanks them. Rhetta hugs him good-bye, saying she’s praying for him. Johnny tells him Allah is by his side.

The boys and Perry tell Mrs. Wilson they think her husband told Judd about their valuables. She remembers that her husband used to ask how many robberies it would take for her to leave her house. They think her husband meant to be there in case anything went wrong.

Leon takes his last shower and prays.

Back in his cell, he marks the wall with his blood. Earl watches. The guard tells him his last visitor is there. Grace. They talk through the door. She tells him she knows his son, a good kid. Grace tells him she blew it, she wanted to help. Leon gives her one of his last meal onion rings. Then he gives her his comb. They hold hands until the guard breaks it up.

Grace hears the sounds of all the prisoners kicking their doors. Leon has to be dragged from his cell to the chamber.

Grace is the only witness on his side. Leon says his last words: “I deserve death, but I’m afraid of it. I’d ask for mercy but I don’t deserve it, the pain I caused is unforgivable. I’m sorry. Allah, please forgive me.”

They begin injecting the drugs. Leon shouts “no” and thrashes. Grace, through glass, whispers to him to look at her. His head jerks around the room until he finally finds her and relaxes, calm. As the monitors shows his heart stopped, Earl comes over and kisses his head. They pronounce him dead.

Grace takes the sketch of the young man with the scar. It has an address written on it. She knocks on the door. The woman with the nose ring answers. Grace introduces herself. “My name is Grace, I know an angel named Earl. Do you?”

Complete Recap and Spoilers of Saving Grace 2×11 – So what´s the purpose of a Platypus?

Rhetta and Paige try to talk Grace into trying on her shiny green, slinky maid of honor dress. She goes to her room to try it on and Earl drops in, reminding her that she hated her sister Mary Francis’ dress, too, but wore it.

Paige babbles about her sister as Rhetta checks her phone. She has a text that says: “5,000!” Grace comes out wearing the dress, looking like a shiny avocado. Rhetta chokes back guffaws as Paige tries to be polite.

Grace arrives at a crime scene — it’s at Louis’ bar. Maggie has a good cut on her head, but is ok. It was a robbery. She hit somebody with a bat.

Grace checks on her. She was terrified, thought the man was going to kill her. She describes him as white, tall and thin. She thinks he was hiding in the storage closet. She went to check out a noise with her bat, but he had a gun. Maggie says she’s mad at Doug because he when he called to check on her he said he was having second thoughts. Just then Doug busts in, but Ham tries to stop him because it’s an active crime scene. He chicken wings him on to a bar table as Grace tells him Maggie’s fine and to meet her at the hospital. Maggie and Doug shout that they love each other, all is forgiven.

Rhetta says the robber took Maggie’s wallet and all her tips. Grace responds by telling her Doug’s thinking of calling off the wedding. They high five.

Ham briefs everyone on what happened. Leon Cooley’s kid Benjamin brings in the sketches based on Maggie’s description. He’s there as a police explorer, like Grace’s nephew Clay. After he leaves the room Perry tells everyone not to be putting up any syringes or death pools around Cooley’s execution.

Grace listens as Doug and Maggie argue over where she’s going to stay. The robber threatened to kill her if she called the police and has her ID. Maggie thinks she shouldn’t stay with him because of Clay. They go back and forth until Grace suggests Maggie stay with her.

Down in Rhetta’s lab Grace celebrates her brilliant idea, allowing her to spy on Maggie. Rhetta gets a text that says 7,740! Maggie’s phone in evidence buzzes with a private number. Grace answers.

It’s a deep voice saying, you went to the cops, now I’m going to have to kill you.

Grace helps Maggie settle in. When Maggie leaves for the bathroom Doug asks Grace if they should wait to get married. Grace says yes, because of Clay. She says it can’t hurt to wait.

Bobby has traced the call to a pay phone. Butch and Rhetta check it out.

Earl visits with Leon, who’s sitting naked in his cell as he reads his 30 days before execution briefing. He doesn’t want there to be any surprises. He hasn’t been able to sleep. He’s been dreaming about Grace. He has 17 days left. He’s trying to decide his last meal. He has $15 to spend. He’s done research on what other executed prisoners have eaten. He doesn’t want any surprises.

Johnny visits Rhetta in her lab. She’s excited, showing him her latest text of “10,000!!!” — about letters written so far on behalf of Leon. But he has a DVD of a news broadcast that’s going to air later. It shows Leon attacking a prison guard and killing him by biting a chunk out of his neck, and then calmly sitting back down to his dinner. Rhetta turns around to see Ben has walked in. She runs after him. She tells him she considers his dad a friend. They decide to pray for a miracle.

Grace and Ham discuss the robbery. They think it was planned. Clay comes out with a petition for Ham and Grace to sign. He knows they’re usually for the death penalty, but the petition says “Please do not kill Ben Cooley’s dad.”

Ham and Grace both sign.

Grace gets a call.

She goes to her house, where her door was kicked in. Maggie’s on the couch. She says she was napping and there was a knock at the door. When she went to open it, someone kicked the door in, but Grace’s usually lethargic dog Gus went after the guy and scared him off. Ham takes Doug outside to get his statement. Grace asks Maggie if she’d like some mouthwash to wash the taste of b.s. out of her mouth. To demonstrate, Grace shuts her door, pounds on it and wails for help – as Gus does precisely nothing in response.

Maggie starts crying. She knows who’s doing it, a man who she hooked up with for a night before she met Doug. Grace calls Doug in so Maggie can tell him the truth. She’s peeved they wasted a day on Maggie’s story.

Grace watches a DVD from after the Oklahoma City bombing. She sees her sister Mary Francis. She brought her a present, a puppy Gus. Then baby Clay cries in his crib. Mary Francis teaches Grace how to nurse him after she says she can’t.

Grace wakes up with her face on a wet spot on her pillow on the couch. She smells it and freaks, washing her face off. She takes the pillow in to Rhetta, asking her to test it for semen. “How many girl friends you think get to start conversations like that?” Rhetta says. Grace thinks Maggie had sex on her couch. And not necessarily with Doug.

The rest of the squad are looking into her story of a Rusty, her hook-up.

Rhetta reminds Grace that if Maggie had a one-night stand before she met Doug, it makes sense she wouldn’t want to tell him. Grace tells Rhetta that Maggie watched a video of Clay’s baptism without asking. Rhetta’s black light proves Maggie did have sex with someone on the couch. After dithering over what to do, Grace just calls Doug and asks him point blank if it was him.

Cut to the rest of the squad, talking about the attacks on Maggie. She’s only gotten two mystery calls, both right after talking to Doug and before she got attacked. Rhetta comes in with prints from the quarters in the pay phone. They’re traced back to a man with a very long record for various cons following disasters, several involving an unknown female accomplice. He was also involved in a kidnapping. They race to find Clay.

Earl chats with Leon, who’s excited Ben’s coming to visit him. Leon asks if Earl will be there for his execution. Before and after, the angel says.

They’ve got Maggie under surveillance. Doug comes in, mad as hell at Grace. He found a note from Clay thanking him and aunt Grace for the surprise and saying he’ll see them in a few days. Grace won’t tell Doug where he is, for his own protection. She tells him about the con man and that Doug needs to close his bank accounts. Doug demands Perry arrest Grace. Cut to Grace in a cell.

Earl visits her. She asks how Leon is. Scared. She tells Earl it’s not going to work – making Ben a police explorer and friend of Clay’s. He says everything God does has a purpose, like a platypus. “It makes no sense at all, but there it is,” Earl says. She says the governor won’t grant him clemency. He tells her not to tell Rhetta and Johnny, there are things at work.

Ham comes in, bringing her dinner in her jail cell, including a candle and smuggled bottle of beer.

Leon goes over his 30 day information packet. He has to get numbers for people he wants to call and have as visitors. He wants to list Grace. Johnny begs him to make a video statement for the parole board.

Leon tells Rhetta there’s something she can do for him. He’s picked his last meal. Cheeseburgers, onion rings and a root beer. He left the page about his remains blank. Johnny asks for the honor of dealing with his body. They all cry.

Ham comes back from Maggie’s apartment, where the door was wide open. He found Doug’s insurance information and names of the dead from Hurricane Katrina and their surviving family members. There’s also info on 9/11 victims and all Oklahoma City bombing victims, including articles on the families. They find an article about surviving parents tripling their life insurance – just what Doug did. So if he got married and something happened to him, she’d clean up.

Ham locks her back up, saying he, Butch and Bobby have eyes on Maggie. Later, he comes back, quiet. He unlocks the cell and they bring in Maggie, who’s innocently asking what she did. Luckily, they’re in separate cages. Maggie acts innocent until Grace starts asking her how many times she’s pulled her con. Maggie says she won’t say anything, she knows it’s being recorded. Grace says if it was, would she do this? She walks out of her unlocked cell, picks up the keys the guys left behind and enters Maggie’s cell. She offers her a deal if she helps them catch her partner, whose DNA is all over Grace’s couch. Maggie says yes. Then Grace tells her to make a move for the keys. Maggie puts up her hands, refusing. Grace slugs her anyway.

Rhetta and Johnny drink at Louis’, trying to figure their next step with Leon if clemency is denied. They only have 15 days.

Rhetta thinks Johnny should tell Grace that Leon wants to see her. Just then, a report comes on the news: Leon’s clemency was denied by the parole board. The governor is his only chance now.

Ham, Butch and Bobby enter the bar one by one. Ham spies Maggie’s partner and moves toward him. The three of them get him in cuffs.

Doug and Grace sit and talk on Grace’s sparkling white, stripped clean couch. Grace tells Doug a happy tale about Maggie confessing to everything. He knows she’s lying, but appreciates it. Paige comes back from an amusement part with Clay, who had a blast.

Earl rubs the tension out of Leon’s back to try to help him sleep. He plays some ocean sounds when Leon talks about how much he likes the ocean. Grace walks around her house, drinking beer in her maid of honor dress, made more attractive without sleeves.

Earl rubs her back, too, also bringing her ocean sounds and smells. He tells her it’s time for her to let go. The video of Clay’s baptism drops out of her hand.

Leon drifts off to sleep.

Grace asks Earl what’s going on, waiting to find out.
