Complete Recap and Spoilers of The Cleaner S02E13 Season Finale Trick Candles

Welcome to the season finale of ‘The Cleaner.’ We open with a man named Henry getting ready to shoot up. “We’ll find him, Stacy,” William says in a voice over. Cut to the Cleaner laying asleep in bed when Akani and Arnie come rushing in with a cupcake. “Happy birthday!” they yell. It’s not William’s real b-day, but it is his sober-day anniversary. And there’s something else, too. “Don’t tell me you forgot,” Arnie says. “The charity bike-a-thon?!” But William has no time for pedaling. He need to find this Henry, who we see getting hiiiiiiiiiigh.

Later, PK comes rushing into the garage. “I came to get some bikes,” she says. PK then invites William, who turns his old sponsor down. Cut to Davis, who we met in an earlier episode. Turns out the dude is STILL drinking. PK, Akani and Arnie urge the man to celebrate William’s “sober day.” “You know, he did try and help you,” Arnie said. PK, who is Davis’ sponsor, feel terrible while watching the man chug booze. She couldn’t help him either.

Stacy, meanwhile, meets with William. “What set him off?” the Cleaner asks. Turns out that the not-so-happy couple was discussing divorce. Or, rather, Henry’s wife was insisting on it. “Tell him that he needs to find a new place to live,” Stacy says. A few hours later, William, Akani and Arnie have located Henry. They rent the hotel room down the hall from the unsuspecting client. Suddenly, drug dealer Leo shows up. “What you got?!” the Cleaner demands. “I hate to see you get locked up.” William then pays off the man, who leaves happily.

Arnie knocks on Henry’s door, pretending to be a drug mule. The addict opens the door — and the Cleaner BURSTS inside the room! Henry throws a water jug at the William, who deftly dodges. “How long you been using!?” William demands. Three days, Henry answers. Arnie and Akani then announce that they have to leave for the charity bike thingy (which we’re beginning to suspect is actually William’s big sober-day party).

One commercial break later, William drives Henry to the garage. “This is your fifth relapse in three years,” the Cleaner says. “It’s time to get honest.” Indeed. William then explains that he is 10 years sober TODAY. “We’re going to be spending the day together,” the Cleaner explains. “You better follow my lead.” Just then, Henry sees the divorce papers that Stacy gave William — and begins freaking out! “I have to go home!” Henry whines. “Take me home, William! Please! Please!” So the Cleaner takes Henry home — and Stacy promptly gives the addict his packed bags. “I’ve been holding on for a real long time,” she says. “And I have to let go.” Love might not be the strongest glue, after all — and doesn’t William, who is going through his own divorce, know it. It’s like the Cleaner is looking in a mirror! Henry then starts mumbling about getting a ring back from the dealer he traded it to for drugs. Akani and Arnie, meanwhile, head to the home of Harrison, who we also recognize from a season-two episode. “William will be happy to see you at his birthday party,” Arnie says.

Cut to William rushing into a bank, where Melissa waits. He is trying to get a loan for a new home and needs his wife to sign because they still share a bank account. Melissa asks if he really wants to go through with buying a new home. He does. Just then, a commotion outside! Henry has escaped! William rushes out into the street, but the addict has procured a cab and made a clean getaway. The Cleaner curses. Foiled again!

Naturally, William heads directly to Leo, who explains that Henry came by looking for his ring. The Cleaner pays the little scumbag for information. Turns out Leo’s ex wife has the jewelry in question. Leo hands over an address (after his palms are appropriately greased). Akani and Arnie, in the meantime, continue to round up various guest stars from the past 12 weeks. It’s like the whole band is getting back together! But while his associates are getting reacquainted with the recent past, William has found Henry. The man, of course, is hiiiiiiigh as a kite in outer space. Just then, Leo’s ex wife pulls up — wearing Henry’s bling-tastic former ring, of course. “Who the hell are you!?” she demands in a voice that could shatter glass. Henry pleads for the ring. His excitement becomes so great that he collapses on the lawn. Leo’s ex wife beings shrieking and yelling in the most annoying manner possible. “I can’t do this anymore, man!” she screeches. With the Cleaner’s help, Henry swims back into consciousness. “I gotta get that ring,” he whispers. “It’s the only thing that holds my family together.”

William rushes back to the bank, but it’s closed. “I just lost the one house in the greater Los Angeles area that I could afford!” William screams. Says Henry: “You didn’t want that house.” So true. It’s like the Cleaner is talking to himself! “The last thing you want to do is put that final nail in the coffin of your marriage,” Henry says. Akani and Arnie, meanwhile, try to round up former drunk bum Sunshine but find that she is dead. Akani weeps. “She OD’ed! our sexy assistant cleaner says. “She could have reached out!” Alas, you wiin some and lose others. That’s the way of things in the Cleanerverse. Back to plot A, Henry pleads with William to head back to his house. The addict gets down on his knees and holds out the ring to Stacy (he apparently acquired it for a price). She is defiant — at first. Then she begins crying. “I’m so sorry, baby!” Henry sobs. “I’ll do anything!” Says Stacy: “Stay clean.” The deal is that Henry can stay ONE night, say goodbye to the kids, and then go straight to rehab. William doesn’t like the plan. Henry shouldn’t be out of rehab at the moment — not even for one single night.

The Cleaner returns to the garage in a huff and is surprised by all his former clients. “You didn’t think it was a bike-a-thon, did you?” Arnie asks. William turns away in an even bigger huff before being stopped by PK (what a party pooper). “You did this for all these people,” she says. “Who’s taking care of you?” The impassioned speech convinces the Cleaner to return to the party. “Happy birthday,” says a familiar voice. Melissa emerges from the shadows. She smiles at her soon-to-be ex (or maybe not?). Then the testimonials begin. Each former addict updates his or her story — and thanks William for a job well done. The Cleaner practically blushes.

Later that night, William returns to his old home, where Melissa, Ben and Lulu still sleep. “I know how hard it has been to be married to someone like me,” the Cleaner tells his wife. “I think I was afraid to see myself the way you saw me.” Melissa says that no one loves him more than her, but he “couldn’t sit still.” Asks the Cleaner: “What do you want?” She says she only wants him to close up the house at night, check on the kids and be a normal hubby and dad. “That’s the only thing I ever wanted,” Melissa claims. Whispers William: “I can do that.”

Henry, in the meantime, returns home under Arnie’s supervision. We cut back and forth between Henry’s house and the Cleaner’s abode — further reinforcing the notion that the 10-year sober vet and the raw addict are two sides of the same coin. Just as the Cleaner is crawling into bed with his wife, Arnie calls. Turns out Henry has asked for William’s immediate assistance. “Go,” Melissa says. The more things change, the more they stay the same, it seems. So the Cleaner arrives at Henry’s house. He holds the man … while his wife sleeps alone.

Complete Recap and Spoilers of The Cleaner S02E12 Crossing the Threshold

The Cleaner contemplates love. Turns out he didnt really feel it because he didnt deserve it so I could never really understand it. Profound words from William. And while the Cleaner converses with God, we see a young couple canoodling in bed before shooting up. True love, indeed.

Cut to a highway. The young man, looking quite pale, speeds down the road. He calls the young woman named Anna, telling her to wait for me. He then dials William but the call is cut off. Damnit! the young man yells before pounding the steering wheel. Will he be in time? Nope. Anna shoots up in a restroom, losing consciousness.

Moments later, the young man appears outside the garage, carrying an overdosed Anna. The Cleaner suggests the hospital. No! the young man called John insists. No hospitals! No one can know! So William takes the woman to the back room and performs mouth-to-mouth. Suddenly, Anna swims back into consciousness. Welcome back, the Cleaner says. Later, John claims that bad people are looking for Anna. As long as her location is kept secret, everyone will be safe. The Cleaner is understandably skeptical. Youre using again, he tells John, who is apparently an old client.

Sometime later, Arnie arrives. Boss, he says, detective Baker is here. Baker explains that John is an undercover cop whose cover has been blown. Turns out Anna is the daughter of a Felix, a drug cartel bigwig. William denies any knowledge of Annas whereabouts. What I do is confidential, the Cleaner says. Im not saying that shes here, but like any other client, unless youre family, you need a court order. Baker sighs and then theorizes that John has been using again. William nods.

The next morning, Akani notes that Anna has definitely been getting the pure shit. William explains to his cocky assistant that Felix is no joke if she wants out, he wont hold it against her. I dont have anywhere else to be, she quips. Meanwhile, Anna has awoken. She claims to have just measured wrong instead of deliberately overdosing. The Cleaner isnt buying it. Arnie enters with news: cartel thugs are outside. I represent Felix Gonzalez, a particularly menacing thug says. He then not-so-subtly threatens the Cleaners family. But William doesnt budge. He doesnt let anyone inside the garage.

Later, William demands that Baker explain just what the heck is going on. Turns out undercover John fell in love with Anna and the two planned to escape. Its just a love story, Baker says. A love story with heavy drugs, but still. The Cleaner kindly asks Melissa to leave town with the kids but she refuses. Put your family first! Melissa barks. We are not shaping our lives around your work anymore were not leaving. Thats not good news because Anna warns that everyone is going to die. Great.

Night. John sneaks into the garage and is immediately tackled by William! Its me! John screams. Suddenly, we see that various cartel thugs are lurking outside. The Cleaner, John, Akani, Arnie and Anna jump in the truck and peel out. The cartel thugs pull their guns and FIRE but the Cleaner and co. get away for now. Later, they arrive at a safe house (read: an abandoned building) for a little R&R.

Sometime later, William confronts Anna about her love for John. Have you two ever spent a sober moment together? he asks. The answer is clearly no. The Cleaner then asks Anna permission to speak with her father. I dont know your father, but I know what hes feeling right now, William says. He wants you to be safe and whats so wrong with that? Anna isnt amenable. She is clearly terrified of dear ol dad and with good reason. Baker calls the Cleaner and explains that it isnt just a love story, after all. Turns out John stole $12 million worth of drugs from Felix. Uh oh.

Baker arrives at the hideout and aggressively restrains John. William protests, but Baker wont listen. He drags John out the door. The department needs John back! the cop yells. Something tells us Baker STILL hasnt told William everything. After Baker leaves, Anna explains that the dirty cop arranged the entire deal. Baker was going to buy the drugs from John. If Lawrence is dirty Akani begins. Then, whos watching my house? the Cleaner finishes. Double uh oh.

William jumps in the truck and RACES to his house. Thankfully, his family is safe. The Cleaner doesnt ask this time. He DEMANDS that Melissa, Ben and Lulu pack their bags and head immediately to a hotel. Melissa isnt happy but, then, when is she ever? Meanwhile, Anna seems touched that the Cleaner would put his family at risk to save her life. Take me back home, she says. Its time to end this.

So William and Anna go to meet Felix at his cocaine assembly plant. He saved my life, the girl tells her scary father. Says the Cleaner: Your daughter needs help. Felix seems to consider the idea until William admits that he would encourage Anna to stay away from pops. Im not going to lock my doors, the Cleaner says. You want to come after me, I cant stop you please, let me help your daughter. Felix responds by nodding quickly to a nearby thug, who BASHES William in the head with a pipe. Rude!

Sometime later, William awakens in the garage. He is bloody and clearly in great pain. Consider this your only warning, the particularly menacing cartel thug says. If we ever see you again, youre a dead man. Soon after the thugs leave, William discovers John laying on the floor bleeding. The former undercover cop has been shot in the gut. Promise me youll help her! John gasps. He then hands William his car keys. The stolen drugs are in the truck. Its the only way to save her, he croaks. John croaks.

The plot twist devastates Anna, who decides to numb the pain with a liberal dose of the hard stuff cooked in a spoon. She swoons and passes out. Back at the garage, William wants to trade the drugs for Anna. This goes against everything we do! says Akani, noting that the deal would put drugs back on the street. Dont save Anna! Save yourself! Thankfully, it doesnt come to that. Felix suddenly appears carrying his overdosed daughter. The man is in tears. You did it before do it again, he says. Tell her papa said goodbye. So William gets to keep the girl and the drugs.

But its not over yet. The Cleaner meets Baker at the end of a dock. I have something you want, William says. Baker admits to shooting John and demands the stash of cocaine. Naturally, the Cleaner empties the bag of drugs into the water. No! Baker screams. He pulls his gun on William but ultimately cant bring himself to shoot. Baker shuts his eyes as cops appear. He knows that his double-dealing days are over.

William concludes the episode by declaring that family is the most important. We have to imagine that God agrees.

“Me? I never got down with the idea of fairy tales,” the Cleaner tells God. “But the more time I spend in this gig, the more I see that we need that happy ending.” But will there be a happy ever after this time around? We cut to a young, blonde ballerina dancing her behind off. Lulu, a classmate, watches as the girl suddenly collapses. Folks, we have a user!

FLASHBACK to Lulu sitting in William’s truck. She explains why she must miss school on Friday for dance practice. “This is professional stuff,” the girl explains to her pops. William follows his daughter inside to dance class. A middle-aged woman named Barbara introduces herself to the Cleaner as Callie’s mom. We cut to Callie, a familiar, pre-collapsed young blonde, as she dances her solo. The instructor tells Lulu to pay close attention: Callie is apparently the star of the class. “Wow,” William says to Barbara. “She’s amazing.” Mom explains that a pro scout is coming to watch Callie dance soon. Later, Lulu tells her dad that Callie and instructor Brett are dating. “Everyone knows it,” she gossips.

Out in the parking lot, William notices Callie snorting something in her car. The Cleaner heads back inside. “Why don’t we get out here?” William asks her daughter. Lulu is furious. Not even Melissa, who has shown up to watch her daughter, believes her husband. The Cleaner calls Akani. The team has a new impromptu case. Later, night has fallen and the Cleaner is still hanging out in the parking lot of the dance studio when Akani arrives. She immediately heads inside and begins quietly searching the place for contraband. She soon discovers a needle and some “Oxy” in Callie’s spare ballerina shoes. “Shooting speed and taking Oxy,” William says with a sigh. The Cleaner then decides to search Lulu’s locker … but finds nothing.

The next morning, William confronts Brett. “You think this is some kind of game?” the Cleaner asks. “I know what’s going on and I want it to stop.” Brett is less than receptive and storms inside. But William isn’t done yet. He approaches Barbara and explains that Callie is an addict. “This conversation is over!” mom yells. She doesn’t want to face the truth either. But will Callie? The Cleaner approaches the young dancer, who desperately searches her locker for the drugs that Akani confiscated. “I can help you, Callie,” William says. Alas, Callie runs out. “Leave me the hell alone!” the dancer yells. 0 for 3.

Unfortunately, Lulu has overhead the last half of the conversation and blames her dad for upsetting the best performer and her personal idol. Melissa is also less than receptive, refusing to pull Lulu out of the class. “She’s been through this before — with you,” Melissa says. 0 for 5. Will no one believe the Cleaner? “Well, they’re about to because Callie suddenly collapses while dancing. And we’re back where we started, folks. Cut to the garage. William has carried the girl to the backroom and strapped her to the bed. Callie, meanwhile, is screaming. “This girl is in more than I’ve ever seen,” the Cleaner tells a doctor. Barbara cries over her daughter. Later, William tells his ex-wife that he is pulling Lulu from her beloved dance class. “Until I’m certain there aren’t any more drugs there, she can’t go back,” William tells Melissa.

The doctor enters with news: Callie has been dancing with severe injuries and killing the pain with drugs for more than a year. If she continues dancing, it could cause terrible damage — the loss of movement in an arm or leg, perhaps. “She needs to stop dancing and seek treatment for her back,” the doctor explains. Naturally, this is the last thing that mother-of-the-year Barbara wants to hear. Callie MUST dance on Saturday for the scout. “I’m so close,” Callie whines to her mother. “We’re so close.” Later, William heads back to the studio to openly threaten Brett. “I will burn this place to the ground,” the Cleaner tells the instructor. So Brett breaks: “The drugs aren’t coming from me.” So who? Three guesses — and the first two don’t count. You got it: mom. William returns to the garage with a bag he found in Barbara’s car. He dumps it on the floor. It is full of precious pain-killing drugs. Needless to say, the Cleaner is PISSED. Mom desperately explains that she is only doing it for her daughter’s ultimate success and happiness. “I don’t see how being your daughter’s pusher can be justified,” William shoots back. “You need to tell her that you will never give her drugs again!”

The one positive about Barbara being the pusher is that the Cleaner can now allow Lulu to dance again. “Thank you, daddy!” Lulu chirps. She then heads into the recovery room to talk to her fallen idol, Callie. “You’re the reason why I dance and if you had to stop, it wouldn’t be the end of the world,” Lulu says. Callie reacts badly, accusing Lulu of trying to steal her part in the production. “You don’t have a prayer at being half as good as me on your worst day!” Callie screams. Lulu rushes out in tears.

Barbara, in the meantime, is still insisting that her daughter needs to dance. William relents with qualifications. Callie can dance on Saturday, yes, “but no drugs, no pain medications — she needs to see for herself where she really stands.” Back at home, Lulu is moping, saying that she is not “any good” at dancing. William explains that Callie is too far gone to offer an honest opinion on Lulu’s qualities as a dancer or a human being. The Cleaner’s mopey offspring seems to accept dad’s theory.

Later, Callie is preparing for her big audition. William attempts to talk the girl out of dancing today. If she stops dancing now, perhaps she will be well enough to teach in a few years. Callie, however, won’t listen to reason. “There’s nothing like it,” she tells him. So Callie dances. She dances well. She dances for well over a minute. Then she begins to shake in horrible pain. Callie stares at William, who stands just offstage. Callie thinks it over and decides to stop. She walks out of the spotlight. In the audience, mom cries. William puts his arm around the girl and promises to get her on a plane and get her help.

Later, William returns to his old house to find Melissa smoking. He teases her and they talk about their daughter. She offers the Cleaner a cigarette and he accepts. “Nasty habit,” Melissa quips. Says the Cleaner to God: “All those fairy tales … for my kids, for my kids and my wife, I’ll believe in anything.”

Amen, brother. Amen.

“I don’t know much, but I know you’re out there,” the Cleaner tells God. “You keep the river flowing no matter what … but for those of us afraid of change, we follow the path of least resistance.” So true, Cleaner — so true. As the episode opens, it appears that William is house hunting. Later, we see him discussing girls with Ben, who discovers the realtor’s flier in the car and seems concerned.

But there’s no time for that now. A woman waits outside the garage for William. A desperate mother named Marsha is worried about her son, Taylor. Turns out Marsha is a best-selling writer who wrote about her son’s apparent recovery from addiction. Unfortunately, the boy has since gone missing. “The paperback is supposed to come out next month,” she cries. “Taylor and I have been through so much. I can’t lose him now!”

So William goes to visit dad, who mom calls a “bad influence.” The two don’t exactly talk anymore. And dad doesn’t talk to William either. “You came to the wrong place,” says Mr. Fisher. Back at the garage, Akani reads Marsha’s book and uncovers the name of Taylor’s former sponsor: Perry. The Cleaner pays the man a visit. Alas, Perry isn’t so cooperative either. “I don’t really have an ego in this thing … if she writes a sequel, it’s all you,” William says. Perry explains that Taylor used to score in a “rough spot” downtown.

Back at home, Ben and Lula prepare dinner. “Dad is looking at houses,” Ben says. Suddenly, there’s a knock at the door. It’s William. Ben has invited his dad over for dinner without Melissa’s knowledge. But it seems to go over OK. Soon, the whole family is laughing. It’s just like the good ol’ days — if only for a brief time.

The next day, Marsha is doing a book signing and trying to hide her apparent pain. William visits. “So, no one has seen him,” the Cleaner says. “I turned over every lead. You tell me where to go … You’ve given me nothing to go on.” Marsha says she has nothing more information to offer, but begs William to keep looking.

Back at the garage, Arnie doesn’t believe that mom really wants her son found. He believes that Marsha is only interested in selling books. Akani disagrees. So William decides to have Akani watch Marsha while Arnie watches dad. “One of them is lying,” the Cleaner theorizes. Soon after, Ben confronts William about the fractured Banks’ family. “I dont get it!” he screams. “Things got better and that’s when you decide it was too tough?!” The Cleaner has no answers for his son.

Akani calls. Marsha’s home has been robbed. “The good news is he’s alive,” William says. “We have a chance.” Taylor has supposedly left behind a hair. The Cleaner tells Akani to test it and find out what drugs the boy is taking. Later, Akani calls: “The hair is 100 percent synthetic … it’s a wig.” William quickly puts two and two together. That’s why no one downtown recognized him! So the Cleaner heads back downtown and quickly recognizes Taylor — dressed as a woman! William grabs the boy when the cops suddenly appear. They cuff William and Taylor. “You’re a real clean cut dude to be picking up ass down here,” the cop says. The Cleaner tells the fuzz to call their boss, who confirms that William is the real deal. Once free, William takes Taylor to the hospital to treat some nasty looking drug-related wounds.

At the hospital, Taylor lies in a hospital bed waiting for his mother. “She didn’t tell you about the fight?” the boy asks. William frowns — it’s the first he has heard of it. Marsha and Perry suddenly enter. “I know I said some things some harsh things but I’m sorry,” mom says. William senses that something is horribly wrong. “Everybody out!” he yells. “Right now!” Outside in the hallway, William demands to know why mom and Perry failed to mention Taylor’s “gender issues.” “You’re son is in a lot of pain and it’s causing his drug problem!” the Cleaner says. Perry dismisses our hero. So does mom.

But will dad? William pays pops another visit. The man tells William that he didn’t know Taylor was taking hormones, although he did know that his boy was “in pain.” “I didn’t know what to do for him,” dad cries. Turns out mom and did didn’t break up over Taylor’s drug use so much as the boy’s desire to become a woman. The pair then head to Perry’s clinic to confront Marsha. “This is not about you, Marsha!” dad screams. “What room’s he in!?” Unfortunately, Taylor has disappeared again.

William heads back downtown to the aforementioned “rough spot” to find Taylor hiding out in a porta-potty. “We’re not going to leave you down there to die,” William says. “You’re father came to get you. I told him everything and he still wanted to.” Taylor cries that he is “sick” and “broken.” “Get out of here!” Taylor yells. “Leave me the hell alone!” So William does, telling the boy that he knows where to find him (and help).

Back at the garage, William has a heart-to-heart with Melissa. “I wanted to talk about Ben,” the Cleaner says. “I don’t think it’s a good idea for him to see me living in that crap-hole apartment back there.” William then tells Melissa that he has found a house to buy. Melissa is taken aback — this move more or less makes their divorce final. Melissa doesn’t seem sure that this is what she wants, but she also doesn’t protest.

Sometime later, William invites Marsha and dad to the garage. “I picked up Taylor downtown about three days ago,” the Cleaner explains. “He’s ready to get clean, but he wants to say a few things to you two first.” Taylor enters dressed as a woman. His parents appear SHOCKED at the sight. “I’ve never felt right in my own skin,” Taylor explains. “My whole life I thought this was wrong — this body was wrong … I want you to love me!” Dad stands and hugs his son. Marsha, on the other hand, walks out in anger.

But we’re not done yet. Marsha the author is giving a talk to readers about the dangers of addiction when William, dad and Taylor enter. She begins to cry. “Before I go on, there is someone I’d like you to meet,” she tells the crowd. “This is my … my … this is my Taylor.” The audience turns to look at the boy dressed as a girl. Says William to God: “Sometimes the path of least resistance just makes the road longer.” Amen, Cleaner. Amen.

Complete Recap and Spoilers of The Cleaner S02E08 – The Turtle & The Butterfly

Looks like the Cleaner is talking to God again. He wonders if God wonders why he is asking for His guidance again after all these years. Got that? In any event, something tells us we’ll soon find out. We cut to William talking to PK. “I’m not your sponsor anymore,” she says. “So what am I doing here at 2 o’clock in the morning?”

We FLASHBACK to William meeting a middle-aged woman named Gale. She hands him $10,000 in cold, hard cash. Looks like the Cleaner has himself a job. Gale takes William and Arnie for a drive in her fancy sports car. The woman’s son is being held in jail on $50,000 bail. The Cleaner explains that her son wouldn’t be held at such a high price if the boy was just using meth. He has to be producing or distributing.

The clan arrive at the out-of-the-way sheriff’s station. “Thirteen months ago, Travis was clean … then he just, you know, wasn’t,” mom explains. Arnie emerges from the station with news: a fire burned down the meth lab, meaning there isn’t enough evidence to hold Travis. Just then, Travis emerges looking askance at William. “Who’s this guy?” he asks. Mom threatens to cut her son off if he doesn’t submit to the Cleaner’s special brand of caring. The boy reluctantly agrees.

But first, the entire clan visits the site of the meth-lab fire. Turns out Travis is living with his girlfriend Jenny, who appears as strung out as him, and Miles, a young boy. Neither is happy to hear that ol’ Trav is just stopping by to pack before heading to William’s garage. Arnie loads Travis into the car and steps out to chat with William and Gale when — suddenly! — the car pulls away. Travis has escaped and William is FURIOUS at his wisecracking assistant, who takes off after the car on a bicycle.

Much later, a soaked-with-Arnie arrives at an office park to find Travis. “Give me the keys!” an exhausted and frustrated Arnie screams. “I’ve been all over town looking for your ass!” Just then, a creepy drug dealer named Riley appears. Arnie knows the man from his own sordid past. Turns out Riley has decided to take possession of Gale’s car. “Understand this: one way or another he’s got to give back what he owes me,” Riley snarls. “His lab blew up. Who do you think foots the bill on that?” The bill, by the way, is $500,000. Arnie wisely decides to leave.

Back at the motel, William watches as Miles arrives back in town on a bus. He hands Jenny a package and receives an envelope in return. The boy is an obvious drug mule. William and Gale confront the boy. “I wonder if you could tell us what’s going on with Travis?” the worried mother asks. The young boy launches into a complicated metaphor about snapping turtles and butterflies (we won’t go into it) before storming off. Bottom line: Miles is an angry young man unwilling to help. “We’re gonna wait,” William says.

Mom doesn’t like that idea and bursts into Miles’ motel room. She finds Miles snorting drugs off his PSP. The boy has been using for a year and he is CRAZED. He goes on and on about some new Japanese video game (we won’t go into it) while Gale gently pumps the boy for information. They are developing quite a report when Travis and Arnie suddenly enter. Turns out Travis got away from Riley — but has a gashed eye to show for it. “We can’t do this anymore!” mom moans. Travis just nods. Whatever.

William asks to talk to Travis alone. “What’s Miles doing in the middle of the night heading to Palm Springs?” asks the Cleaner as if he already didn’t know. Travis explains that Miles mother — just a kid, too — owes Riley a whole bunch of money. “She leaves Miles with Riley to pay off her debt?” William asks. The Cleaner is furious. Just then, Jenny arrives. We learn that she is being paid by Riley to watch the boy, who is the perfect mule because he looks so innocent. William ushers everyone but Jenny into Gale’s car and drives off. It’s Jenny’s turn to be furious

The Cleaner doesn’t care. After all, there’s cleaning to be done.

But somebody does care. Namely, the town’s dirty cops. Flashing lights appear in the rearview and William pulls over. The officer appears at the drivers side window. “Give me the kid!” he yells. William tries to explain that the boy is being used as a meth trafficker. “What were you saying about meth, Mr. Banks?” the cop asks. He then drops a baggie of the stuff into the front seat. Uh oh. He takes Miles from the back seat by force. “I see anyone of you again for any reason and its the end of your freedom,” the cop growls. “Understand me?”

Back at the garage, William gives Travis drugs (legal ones). The boy says that he’ll never be able to stop using meth. He also feels guilty about getting Miles hooked on drugs (illegal ones). “I gotta help him!” Travis screams. Mom accuses her boy of just wanting to get high. “It’s what I do!” he yells back. “It’s what I’m good at!” Gale slaps her boy, who storms out. William is in such a fix that he calls PK. So THAT’S what she is doing at the garage at 2 a.m. “If you’re all twisted up about this kid, you need to get off your ass,” she says. “You need me to suit up?” William says no. He’ll handle this one alone. Even the Cleaner needs encouragement sometimes.

So William heads out. He quickly finds Travis walking alone down a lonely road. The Cleaner takes him straight to Riley’s hideout/ lab, where he confronts the small-time (but still dangerous) drug kingpin. “I just want the kid,” William says. Riley agrees to disagree and pulls a gun. “You want to buy him back?” the scumbag asks. Suddenly, Travis enters. He offers to give up himself in exchange for letting William and Miles go. “You let them go and I’ll work for you forever,” Travis says. William begs the young man not to give himself up. “Tell my mother I’m so sorry,” Travis tells the Cleaner. The trade is made: Miles for Travis.

As the sun rises, William enters the garage with Miles. Gale is heartbroken. Her boy is gone. But Gale feels a bit better when Miles hugs her. “You’re safe,” she whispers.

No one can win em all — not even the Cleaner.

Complete Recap and Spoilers of The Cleaner S02E07 – An Ordinary Man

Inspired by a true story …

The Cleaner wonders if God ever has His (or Her) heart broken. Somehow we doubt it. A hospital administrator visits William at the garage and shares an anonymous letter heavily hinting that someone on the doctoring staff is using drugs. The admin thinks it might be a Dr. Jake. “You think he’s using speed?” the Cleaner asks. Bingo.

Cut to Dr. Jake, a devil-may-care heart surgeon who is good-looking enough to appear on TV hawking artificial hearts. Cut back to the garage. “If this gets out, we could get sued or shut down,” the admin says. Worse: Someone could die. Cut to the operating room. Dr. Jake finishes up an operation and then injects himself with something. We’re betting its not sugar water.

Later, Akani goes undercover as a nurse named Tami. William, meanwhile, poses as an unnamed janitor. He watches as Dr. Jake examines a young girl before taking her worried parents out into the hallway and suggesting a cutting-edge artificial heart. “She’ll die without it,” Dr. Jake insists. “For now, let’s just believe that a suitable donor will come through, but if it doesn’t, let’s believe in me.” Akani reports that she has noticed a nurse named Carrie using. Could she be Dr. Jake’s supplier?

An emergency calls comes in, giving Akani and William a chance to search the doc’s office. Sure enough, they quickly discover evidence of “good old fashioned speed” (as opposed to that new fangled speed, we guess). William confronts the admin, telling him that Carrie is “high right now.” Bad news as Carrie is currently helping out in surgery. Just as the admin is about act, Carrie collapses on the floor of the O.R. “What about my son?” she moans. William promises to take care of the boy, named Aidan.

Back at the garage, William entertains Aidan when Melissa suddenly enters. Turns out William forgot that he was going to help pack up clothes for Goodwill (poor guy gets kicked out of his home and STILL has to do housework?). Melissa can’t stay angry, though. She calls Aidan “adorable” and volunteers to take him home for a few hours.

Later, William and the admin confront Dr. Jake, who is defiant. William suggests that the maybe-not-so-good doc take a urine test. “Contact my lawyer and we’ll set up a date,” Dr. Jake sneers. The admin threatens to file a formal report if the test is positive. Or, Dr. Jake can take the test now and the results will be kept secret. Dr. Jake relents. While he urinates (and William watches, because he “has to”), the doctor tells the Cleaner that he is not an addict. What he does to keep himself operating at peak levels for 96 hours at a time is his business. “These results don’t matter … I matter,” Dr. Jake says. “What I do matters.” We’ll see about that, doc.

William retreats to the admin’s office, where the bureaucrat explains that Carrie’s husband died in a plane crash some years ago. Since then, Jake is the only one who “has earned her trust,” the admin says. A sad story, indeed. William takes a tour of the hospital with Dr. Jake, who explains that the girl from earlier will die if he doesn’t operate on her TOMORROW. But uh-oh! Dr. Jakes drug test is positive, meaning he can no longer operate! William looks at the little girl. What a pickle for our Cleaner. Dr. Jake argues that a “drug can retrain the body to do things that nature would not have it do.” In other words, speed makes the man a better doctor. No dice, doc. “If you walk out that door, Jake, I will call the AMA and have your license revoked,” the admin says.

Melissa, in the meantime, plays Monopoly with adorable Aidan. She gets a phone call. Akani says that Aidan’s mom is coming to get him. Turns out the hospital admin can’t keep Carrie at the garage against her will. Back at the garage, Akani tries to convince Carrie to stay and get clean. Just then, William arrives with Jake — her boyfriend! “I’m staying,” he says. “We need help.” Suddenly, Carrie decides that staying isn’t such a bad idea, after all.

The next morning, Dr. Jake is shaking. “The first day is always the hardest,” William says. The speed freak can’t believe he “was that far gone.” Against every fiber of his God-complex being, Dr. Jake asks for help. “You can’t know what it’s like to take things from a body that should not be taken,” he cries. Suddenly: a phone call. The little girl at the hospital is not responding to life support. She needs surgery. “You know somebody else who can put that heart in that girl?” Dr. Jake asks. “I can do this. I can do it, William.” Can he? The man’s hands are shaking, for Pete’s sake.

So what does William do? “It’s going to be on my watch and on my turns,” he says before injecting the doc with amphetamines. The hands stop shaking and Dr. Jake’s bleary eyes focus. William, on the other hand, looks as if he has just made a deal with the devil. Cut to the hospital where the admin doesn’t like the plan — not one bit. But he has no choice. No one else can do the surgery, apparently. Dr. Jake leaves the office to scrub up.

Back at the garage, Carrie awakens to find Dr. Jake missing. Suddenly, she is not so happy to be sleeping in the garage. In fact, Carrie begins to have visions of the plane crash that killed her husband. The poor woman is cracking up. “He’s going to need me,” she says of Dr. Jake. “He always needs me.” Akani assures Carrie that Jake will be back. Akani then correctly guesses that it was Carrie who sent the anonymous letter to the hospital. “I don’t want to lose him,” she says. “I don’t want to lose anybody ever again.”

Cut to the hospital. Dr. Jake is scrubbed and about to step into the operating room when he turns to William and smiles. “I’m going to do this on MY terms, with MY drugs,” he says. It’s always me, me, me with this guy. Dr. Jake, still smiling, then tosses back a handful of hidden pills. William is aghast. So is the hospital administrator. The good doc is now performing heart surgery on speed. Again.

Later, the girl wakes up in the recovery room. It looks as if the surgery was successful. Dr. Jake, the Cleaner and especially the little girl got away with one today. But will the doc return to recovery as promised? “You and I both know that’s not going to happen,” he says with a feces-eating grin. He then dares the admin to sack him. “You are all so stuck behind God and the ‘right thing,’ ” Dr. Jake says. “In my world, there is no other God than me … Let me have my flaws for the greater good.” No can do. “It’s over for him,” the administrator says to William. “It’s probably over for all of us.”

But it turns out that Dr. Jake resigns before he can be fired. And why not? Every hospital in the world wants him. The cocky doc then pulls up to William’s garage to pick up Carrie. “She called me,” he tells William with a smile. The Cleaner goes inside, asking Carrie to stay. “He’s going to marry me,” she says. Says William: “The same guy that got you hooked on drugs?” Carrie appears to reconsider. She looks from Dr. Jake to her son to William and back again. Finally, she decides to ditch the doc and stay clean. Dr. Jake pulls away in his sports car. You could even say he “speeds” away.

The team goes 1-for-2 this week — and that just might break God’s heart.

“I’ve been wondering about this free will &%$#,” William says. Nice, Cleaner. Cursing to open the show. But it’s about to get even more RAW. A young manager named Michael rages against William and his crew for not controlling his rock star client, who appears high on a video tape. “We pay you a lot of money to sit on April and make sure this doesn’t happen!” he screams. William responds by putting Akani on the case.

Speaking of addicts, we meet soon Michael’s parents: an aging lounge act so drunk they can barely warble an off-key tune. Poor guy is surrounded by addicts. “If you want them clean, you have to prepare them for some kind of separation,” William tells the young man. Michael pleads with William to get his parents clean in time for his upcoming wedding to fiance Josephine. Backstage, the Cleaner confronts Lola and Bernie, who aren’t interested in any “life changes” at this point.

Akani, in the meantime, confronts rock-star April, who appears higher than the highest kite. “I don’t know who Michael thinks he’s kidding,” April says. “It doesn’t matter if I’m high or I’m low.” Apparently, she believes that her tour will go on regardless. Frustrated, Akani heads to the bathroom and begins dumping all the surrounding drugs down the drain, replacing them with them with placebos. It doesn’t work. April has seen all these tactics before. She enters the bathroom and dumps the placebos. Now Akani is REALLY frustrated.

Back at the garage, William looks over divorce papers from Melissa when Akani enters. “We need to start treating her like a child,” she says of April. Akani then accuses William of letting business get in the way of what he “believes in.” In other words, William refuses to delay or cancel any tour stops for the rock star.

The next morning, William heads to the home of Lola and Bernie, who have agreed to submit to William’s treatment. Just then, William gets a text message from Akani: he and Michael are needed at April’s place. And with good reason. April is higher than normal, which means she is positively flying. “You’re the reason I wanted to do all of this,” she slurs to her manager. “Please, please, please, don’t let me go out there.” But Michael refuses to cancel a single stop the tour. He suggests postponing his wedding to join April on the road. Famous client or fiancé? It’s a difficult choice.

Sometime later, police burst through the April’s door with a warrant. Akani, playing babysitter once again, sighs heavily. “I work with William Banks,” Akani says. “Have some mercy, please. Let me help her.” The lead cop agrees to come back in a week. “Tell William this makes us even,” he barks before leaving.

Back at the garage, Michael is freaking out. He demands to know what happened. “I staged a bust, scared the hell out her, OK?” Akani tells him. Clever girl. William and Michael then head to Bernie and Lola’s. A family argument soon erupts. Bernie claims he boozes just to tolerate his wife. Then Bernie turns his ire on sonny boy, claiming that he “gave it all up” and became a lounge singer in order to take care of Michael. When given a choice, Lola still sides with her husband. “I’m sorry, William, but we’re done with this,” she says. “We are done!” Growls William: “I’m not giving up on you two.” That just isn’t the Cleaner’s style.

Nor is letting Melissa serve him with divorce papers. William heads to the old homestead to have a heart-to-heart with his former flame. “I got the papers,” he says. “They’re pretty hard to look at … What do you want?” Melissa explains that she signed the papers. “When you’re ready, I want you to pick up a pen and …” William cuts her off. Regrouping, Melissa says signing the divorce papers was hard on her too. The Cleaner leaves in a huff.

Later that night, Bernie is back on stage singing and slurring. Just as the song is coming to a merciful end, Michael charges the stage. He is holding a drink. Earlier, we learned that the boy had been stone cold sober his entire life. Not anymore. Bernie and Lola have finally driven him to intoxication. “Everybody raise a glass to the worst goddamn parents a kid could have!” he screams to the shocked crowd. William helps escort Michael off the stage.

Back at the garage, Lola demands to see her son. “Are you crazy?” Josephine asks. “You two are the reason he’s in this mess!” Bernie is defiant. “It’s not my problem the boy can’t hold his liquor,” he grumbles. Michael emerges with a hangover, hoping he has taught his parents a valuable lesson by demonstrating to them what he has dealt with during the last few decades. But dad is already gone and mom only fights with Michael’s fiancé. Michael defends his mother, which sets the future missus off. “I can’t keep doing this!” Josephine screams. “Put us first from now on!”

Later, William stands outside Bernie and Lola’s house when Michael approaches. The Cleaner blocks the door. “You’re not afraid of them dying — you’re afraid of change,” William tells the young man. “You go in there, nothing changes.” By the same token, if Michael goes back on tour, he is once again avoiding change. “April takes drugs, you let her,” William explains. Long story short, Michael has to make a stand for himself and his fiance. “Josephine is a beautiful woman,” the Cleaner says. “Get rid of everything that’s in your way.” It’s a lesson William wished he had learned long ago.

So Michael confronts April, who has sobered up. “I’m not going … I quit,” he tells his client. “I’m no longer your manager.” April is SHOCKED. She shoves Michael — hard. “You don’t have anything without me!” the rock star yells. “You don’t have a career!” That might be true, but it’s time Michael started living for himself. He leaves. April cries and stares accusingly at Akani, as if this is all just another scare tactic. No such luck, honey.

Musical montage time. William visits the home of Lola and Bernie, who continues to booze. Michael goes to Josephine’s house with a bouquet of flowers. They embrace. William, in the meantime, signs his divorce papers. Akani enters. She has come to say goodbye before heading out on tour with April. The Cleaner wishes her luck.

We end the episode back at the club with Bernie, who drinks and sings. Lola is nowhere to be seen. She has returned to the garage to talk to William. “Bernie sent me away,” she cries. “I don’t know where to go now … I don’t remember the last time I did something on my own.” William walks the old lady to the front door of Michael’s house. Lola swallows her pride and goes inside. It’s time for reconciliation. But not for William. He drops the divorce papers off to his soon-to-be ex wife. Fade to black.

Complete Recap and Spoilers of The Cleaner Season Premiere – S02E01 – Hello America!

The last time we saw the Cleaner, he was saving lives and arguing with his wife, Melissa. Then Melissa decided that the not-so-happy couple needed to “take a break.” Poor William Banks. The man can’t seem to catch a break — even when he’s catching junkies.

Back at the garage, Arnie and Akani are arguing as usual. William arrives with a large box of his personal effects. “Are you really going to live here now?” Akani asks. Growls William: “It’s temporary.” Melissa arrives sometime later to deliver William’s mail … and to make a request. “My parents are coming into town,” she tells her husband. “You don’t have to, William, but …” In other words, the Cleaner will move back in for a week and pretend nothing is wrong so as not to alarm the in-laws. “Stunt husband,” he says. Exactly.

Later, Michelle Durham enters the shop. William is delighted to see the woman, who he greets as a longtime friend. Turns out hubby Davis, a famous newscaster, might be in trouble again. Cut to the news station, where William greets his old buddy Davis. “Twenty one years sobriety last week,” Davis says. The man is also writing a book that will “rip the very fabric of society.” William is skeptical, but Davis is too jovial to notice. The pair agrees to meet the following morning. Davis skips out and William takes the opportunity to get a urine sample from the toilet. Sometimes, being the Cleaner is dirty work.

Back home, William pretends to be a happy husband and chats up Melissa’s father and mother. They argue over what William does for a living — specifically, how the Cleaner gets paid. “It’s a sliding scale, but I still take a job if the client can’t pay,” William explains. Father-in-law is NOT impressed and worries about the Cleaner’s income. “We’re doing great!” Melissa lies.

Cut to the inside of a limo, where Davis and William chat. The talk turns serious, though, when Davis reveals that wife Michelle has ovarian cancer. “She’s dying, William,” he says. “My whole world just got knocked off its axis.” Hmm. Sounds like a pretty good reason to artificially kill the pain. The pair soon meets with Paulina Kmec — a.k.a. P.K. — who leads a recovery meeting. Davis, whose sponsor is P.K., gives encouraging words to the group. William, in the meantime, gets a text. Davis’ urine test is positive. “Twenty-one years,” Davis repeats after the meeting ends. “Who would believe that?” Not the Cleaner, who escorts his friend into a waiting car driven by none other than Arnie! “Your wife hired me to get you clean, Davis,” William says.

Back at the garage, Davis raves about his world-changing book before being injected with a bit of sleeping juice by Arnie. William meets with P.K. and Michelle. Turns out Davis has a “drug clause” in his contract, meaning the man has to go on the air today. “If he loses that job, he has nothing,” Michelle explains. William is less than enthused, but agrees to take Davis to the station. Later, William reluctantly hands Davis a bottle of vodka. “I love you and I love your wife, so I’m going to get you through tonight,” the Cleaner explains. “This is one time only. You understand?” Davis nods hungrily and then downs the vodka in a few gulps.

The temporary measure works and a slightly buzzed Davis makes it through the 6 o’clock broadcast. But wait! As the newsroom clears out, Davis makes a break for it! We see the pseudo-journalist being pursued by the team on foot. Just as it appears Davis might escape, a van pulls up and blocks the addict’s path. It’s none other than P.K. The team shoves Davis in the van and head to P.K.’s place. “I love you baby, but you are all messed up,” Michelle tells her husband. Davis continues to rave about his all-important book. Collective eyes are rolled.

Later that night, a heart-to-heart between William and P.K. (the gist: William is sorry for disappearing years ago but needed to do things “alone”) is interrupted by Michelle’s moaning. The woman is in great pain. “She’s not going to take anything until she knows he’s clean,” P.K. says. Angry, William confronts the woman’s husband. “Why don’t you help her, Davis?” the Cleaner demands. “For once in your miserable life, why don’t you help someone else?!” P.K. thinks William is being too hard on the addict.

Time to play fake husband. William takes Melissa and her parents to a beach-side dive near P.K.’s beach house. Melissa, naturally, suspects William is working when he is supposed to playing house. Her father makes matters even more awkward by offering the Cleaner a job at his insurance company. Before William can turn down the prime gig, Davis suddenly emerges from the beach house wearing nothing but his skivvies. William and Arnie chase down and tackle the teleprompter reader. It’s a rare moment of levity.

Later, William attempts to get comfortable on the living room floor while Melissa relaxes on the pull-out couch. The Cleaner wonders why Michelle and Davis remain so committed to each other while William and Melissa can’t get along. Melissa responds by asking her husband to climb into bed. The pair make out before Melissa pulls away. “What’s wrong?” William asks. Cries Melissa: “I’m going to miss you.” Perhaps a full reconciliation is in the offing? Maybe not. The next morning, Melissa’s parents leave and William follows soon after.

The Cleaner arrives back at P.K.’s cabin to find Davis more or less lucid. He admits to breaking his sobriety soon after learning of Michelle’s illness. Davis then tosses William his book — the one that’s going to “rip the very fabric of society.” Only — surprise, surprise — there’s nothing actually written in it. The pages are blank. “You ready to stop?” William asks. Davis says: “This is day one of my sobriety … I want to stop.” He’s going to quit speed and vodka for Michelle, who will now begin taking pain killers. “I couldn’t stand to see you in pain,” Davis tells his wife. “I don’t know what I’m going to do without you!”

A few days later, Davis is back on the air — clean, sober and fully dressed. Michelle, though weak, appears happy. Back at the garage, Melissa helps the Cleaner move in more of his stuff. He takes her hand. “We’re not having sex again, William,” she jokes. Says William: “I love you, babe.” Says Melissa: “I love you, too.” Then she leaves. Talk about your mixed messages. It’s almost enough to lead a man to drugs. But not our Cleaner. Not a chance.
