In yet another great book from Christopher Berry-Dee (this time with Steven Morris) I got to read, I went through the stories of the first few well known cases of murderers and psychopaths that trolled the Internet. The book, from Ulysses Press has a full name of “Online Killers: Portraits of Murderers, Cannibals and Sex Predators Who Stalked the Web for Their Victims”.
Once again, each and every story has the ability to give you goosebumps, but not the nice kind; the creepy kind. In another proof that reality trumps fiction, you will see page after page the makings of the most heinous crimes that had one common factor: The Internet.
With Fourteen Chapters delving into the misconducts of the web, we learn about several horrific stories, none like two of the most gruesome: Armin Mewes the online cannibal (I read about him on another Berry-Dee book about Cannibal Serial Killers) and John E. Robinson who killed several women and put them in barrels to decompose for years until being found.
The book is intense and even though it has several years still portrays the truth about the Internet: As good as it is, and as powerful in changing the world, as my uncle would say “With great power comes great responsibility” and the web has given a platform to act in the shadows easier and makes it for an even bigger problem for the police to act on these cases.
I recommend this book to be read with caution, as it may not be for the faint of heart. Otherwise, a great book and a great choice.
