We are reviewing all the cancelled shows and renewed shows of 2011.
Summer Glau is on the show… so what happened? Why did NBC cancel The Cape? Well, the show has struggled since the beginning and drew an all-time low 1.1 demo rating, managing to make it to 4 million total viewers. And we are talking NBC network. That´s not good… at all.
Earlier this month the series order was cut from a 13 episodes first season to a ten episodes one; and now the finale won´t even air on the network. It will be an NBC.com exclusive.
As announced on the site “The creators … are prepping an exclusive episode just for online fans! Keep watching this site in the days ahead to see a full-length special episode.”
But when will The Cape finale be posted at NBC.Com? Still to be announced. We hope the show gets its fair chance to a good farewell.
So what went wrong with a show with good cast and a good idea? Beats me, but the numbers were just not there.
What do you think? Are you sad NBC cancelled The Cape in its freshman season? Let me know in the comments section.
Also, remember to follow me on Twitter for more cancelled and renewed shows news as this one about NBC cancelling The Cape.
It is unfortunate that they have cancelled “The Cape” as I find Summer Glau way too stunning as to not be on TV at least once a week. However, the show was a little campy and corny without any sex appeal, no sexual tension between characters, at least not until episode 10 where Orwell and Vince seem to be moving into some direction of innuendo. Also, the family bit grew a little stale for me and the show moved somewhat slow in regards to that relationship b/w the son, Mom, and Vince. All in all though, I have watched every episode and would keep watching. It was interesting, I found myself at times saying, “This show is so dumb!”, but other times saying, “Wow, this is suspenseful and interesting.” I ended with a love/hate of “The Cape” and considered it a guilty pleasure. My girlfriend watched the first episode and found it boring, so it was mine to enjoy from the DVR when she was busy.
do not worry. She will be on TV soon enough
I can hardly wait each week for the next episode. What a disapointment to hear it is going to be cancelled. At least let him finish what he is setting out to do!
I watch 2 shows a week religiously. The Cape and Harry’s Law. How is it that Harry’s Law which is on later and seems to be slowing down is still on but The Cape had to go? Why would they allow the fans to create a new character fully knowing that the next episode would not air? Taking it off the air sucks.
The Cape is more expensive, and being in its timeslot should deliver higher numbers to stick around. Maybe it could work on Syfy or Starz or somewhere like that. Maybe NBC was not a good fit for the show to begin with
The cape was something i really injoyed watching. i hate that fact that it is ending there is so so much unfinshed parts to this show. i hope that NBC rethinks it and brings it back i know they will not but hope is what i have and it is what i will hang on too
NBC Can go to hell, This is why they can’t keep viewers, because thay won’t keep good shows on. Why don’t NBC just Cancel themselves?? Television would be a much better place.
NBC just doesn’t seem to like SciFi shows, they neutered Heroes mid season, and the Cape, while watchable, just seemed TOO generic. ABC’s No Ordinary Family gave me not a single member of the family that I gave a tinkers cuss about…
My kids & I loved this show, it was clean yet had drama, I let the boys 10 & 14yrs stay up to watch it. I wonder if later there w/B a video we can purchase. We watched them all, just missed one week.
We were regular watchers of The Cape and liked the concept. It was also a great lead in to HARRY – one of our favorite programs. The Cape was a different idea and kept u guessing each week. Sorry NBC didn’t give it more of a chance. It takes time to build an audience. Stop cutting after 10 – it needs more time and maybe a different slot. Hope they’ll reconsider.
This really sucks. NBC is just so stupid. First they cut Conan O’Brein and now they cut another good show. They really don’t seem to have any brains.
Wow, I had no idea it was being cancelled. I have it set to record on dvr, went to check it late last night, and….there was no recording for the Cape….I checked ahead to see if it would be on next week, and nope.
I don’t watch much tv at all, but this is a show I did enjoy, and I sure hope there will be a finale.
I’m gonna miss this show….I also wonder if it would have done better on a different network…. Darn 🙁
Wow… hard to beleive.. GREAT SHOW!
Maybe since CBS’s “Two and a Half Man” is cancelled the viewers will watch this instead? I look forward to “The Cape” every week. I wish they could play it out and at least reunite Vince with his family for a “happy ever after ending.”
Hardly… they are not in the same timeframe
The only reason I looked at this station was because of The Cape!
It’s nice for once not to have everything based on sex. It is a great show. Make more episodes and I’ll be back watching your station otherwise you have nothing that appeals to me.
I have to say…I’m surprised by all The Cape love. I had high expectations for the show, but the writing was terrible. I rolled my eyes several times each episode. I continued to watch it, because I wanted to find out how it ended. But I kept hoping it would be cancelled…freeing me from this unenjoyable commitment. Thank you, NBC, for cancelling it and for giving it a finale. It seems like the perfect ending…I hope The Cape can deliver something remotely close.
It is a HUGE disappointment thet they are cancelling this show. Despite a few flaws in plot it really was good. I liked how close Vince was to his son and how much he was trying to teach him to grow up to be a good man. There aren’t very many good shows on television these days. I get bored with the crime and hospital dramas and reality shows are so over rated. This was the first show in a long time I was actually interested in watching. Hopefully we’ll start to see some better stuff out there soon.
[…] already told you NBC cancelled The Cape because it just was not performing well in the ratings. But good thing they´ve done in the former […]
F*CK NBC! The Cape was one of the few T.V. shows that I had made sure to tune into each week. I could care less about all the reality B.S. on T.V. these days. The Cape had the core components of a great show…Good VS Evil! NBC sucks…no wonder they always suck in the ratings!!!
I watched cape a couple of times but, i decided why bother. They will just cancel it like heroes and everything else. And i was right!
you know
nbc can shove it up the tail pipe
the cape was a awesome show
I dont beleive it did poorly
thats Just BS!!!!
as far as the season finale went
it wasnt a finale at all
in fact it makes you want to see so much more
the show did not end justly!
if they are not gonna air it anymore they can sell the rights to a more capable and better tv network
a network that wont rape its viewers of enjoyment!
because thats what nbc is doing and no one is doing a damn thing about it!
I have seen this kind of thing happen to many good shows
I remember when the writers went on strike
and tv networks supposedly struggled to get good matériel
but yet
thats when some of the best shows Ive ever seen started to air
like sarrah conner chronicles and blade tv series
just as a example
I think tv was better when the writers union didnt have control over the creative
maybe they are to blame too on this as well
who knows
but nbc
I hope make this right somehow
and actually start to care about your veiwers and not what your sponsors think
cause
case and point
its the sponsors is who is taking good shows off the air because of their own prejudice of
what they think is healthy tv for the public
RESPECT YOUR VIEWERS NBC!!!!
MAKE THIS ONE RIGHT!
It’s sad to see this show go. Yes, at times it was cheesy, but it’s a super hero TV show for goodness sake! I liked the idea behind creating a new superhero instead of rehashing the same ones that have been around for decades. I realize that maybe NBC wasn’t the best place for it, and I hope that Syfy pics it up. The number of viewers might be too low for NBC, but I bet those numbers would be high for Syfy. They need to finish the story line!
This is complete crap! NBC, fox and ABC have to stop cancelling shows in their first season! They never give them a chance to truly shine. What if The WB would have cancelled Smallville like they planned on in the first season? (10 seasons later, and an ass ton of money in pocket.) This pisses me off as much as cancelling Reaper and Firefly. These network dick weeds need to pull their heads out of each others asses and realize 90% of people that watch tv, watch it online or DVR it. No one wants to sit through the damn commercials. I’d like to get my hands on some of these idiots and show them how angry they make people.
NBC is one of those companies that just can’t hold on to their tv shows no matter how good they are. Examples are Surface, Heroes, Bionic Woman (2007), Kings, Knight Rider (2008-09), Life (2007-2009), and now The Cape. NBC’s cancellation of The Cape may have been a good thing, though. While I did enjoy The Cape, I could tell from the first episode that it was doomed to fail. The creators had a good concept, but chose bad writers and bad directors. The show felt too much like a live-action version of some cheesey kids cartoon show. Also, anytime a tv show asks you to create characters for them to use in the show, that is an extremely good sign that the directors and writers don’t know what they are doing. However, like I said, I did enjoy The Cape. If the show had better directors and writers, then it probably would have stayed on air for the 13 episodes that they originally planned. Then again, probably not given NBCs extensive track record for cancelling shows prematurely.
NBC is crap . Maybe they do it for kickers . Air and cancel -.- Losers . Come on , at the very least , wrap the whole season . Give a nicer ending . Albeit the ending wasn’t that bad but perhaps they could had gotten Chess caught and Vince alive . Seriously , F you NBC , yours insincerely Jiv .
give it a chance,it has the leading candidate for the most beautiful woman in the world in summer glau, and an intrigueing story line and a very good cast!
My son and I are so disappointed that The Cape has been canceled. It was one that we enjoyed together during family time. The cast was great and the storyline exciting. I hope NBC will reconsider.
i had no idea the show was going 2 end. i loved watching it! I like know what happens next. To have a superhero that was cool & I like having that. I hope that It comes back on. THIS REALLY SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife and I had our Monday evenings scheduled around NBC’s Mondays due to the great lne up – Chuck, The Cape, & Harry’s Law. Guess we will no longer glued to NBC on Mondays. Oh well is was a short but nice run. We loved the cape and so did our family members. Though the show wasn’t promoted well, we thought it would find its own fan base given a year or so. Guess the execs don’t get that.
Let’s consider the popularity of the DC/Marvel Movie mania and the lack of morality on TV it is no wonder a clean cut show didn’t make it! I’m glad Disney is coming back to Sunday’s! Maybe Disney will buy the show like they did Marvel! NBC is acting the way TV looked at Star Trek in the early 60’s so I guess we shouldn’t be surprised!
NBC always does the same thing. They did the same with Heroes. They terminated the show without even had consideration for their viewers. That is not nice! The Cape was about the only show that I was watching from all the violence and sex there is on TV now. It was a great show! SHAME ON YOU NBC!!! I hope you don’t leave us without a finale.
I think it’s more of a waste of money to cancel a series early rather than pan it out for at least two seasons….. like many have said you gotta give a show the chance to develop or you end up throwing away money…. The First Season of any show can go one way or the other as you’re developing the story, laying the groundwork for the future things can go wrong but the second season that things really happen. I believe they’re making a huge mistake…
The Cape was great show, and I will jones for it long after it’s demise. NBC sucks for dropping it.
I do not watch many shows. Sports fan mainly, but I enjoyed The Cape, and am sorry to see it go! They really should have let the season play out, might have been surprised???
I’m pretty disappointed that The Cape is being cancelled. It was a fun show, easy to watch without being a sci-fi nerd. Each episode plot gave you closure at the end, while still keeping you interested in the grander plot of the series. The best part was it was a good, clean show that families could watch and still be entertained by (even though I’m 24 and single and enjoyed it too). Nice to actually see a show that has some family values promoted in it. Too bad NBC pulled the plug on this one, I think it could have gotten a lot more popular if they put some effort into marketing it. Hopefully NBC will stop their trend of throwing poop at the wall and hoping something will stick, and actually follow through on good shows. I watched religiously online, hopefully another network will pick this show up.
My 12 year old daughter is crying uncontrollabily at this very second, we just googled to find out why the Cape has not been on for the past two weeks, and now we know! I think this was a great show for kids
I really liked this show. Why a grown woman would get all teary eyed about a man in a mask and cape is beyond me. But it happened every week. It was just fun, just like super hero shows should be.
I think that NBC can not compete with CBS on mondays but who can? Just put the Cape on like saturdays when there is not much primetime tv to compete with except AMW and Cops and they will be fine! I am pretty Bummed!
CURSES!!! CURSES!!!
For the first time in a long time,
I finally found a good prime-time show such as The Cape
to watch on T.V. and now that you @#%&!!! canceled it,
without allowing faithful fans to know if The Cape finally
kicked Chess’s @$$ and liberated the city
from corporate dictatorship!!!
DANG IT ALL!!!
Now that The Cape got bumped off the air,
there aren’t any good prime-time programs to watch!!!
Just a bunch of dull and boring felgercarb!!!
Well network execs, look out, ’cause the mighty Wizard
is gonna cast some very powerful spells on ya’ with its
cosmic powers of the universe!!!
And it would not be a fun gettin’ zapped by a plasma beam!!
C’mon… Why did you cancel the meat in my monday night sandwich.
I’m still not over you crushing LIFE… stoopid networks
Bring back The Cape…
NBC YOU SUCK ASS. BRING BACK THE CAPE !
NBC YOU SUCK ASS. BRING BACK THE CAPE!!!!
yes i am very sad that the cape got canceled. i thought it was a great show. a cape made of spider silk that can do unimaginable things as a super hero that, i think is a good plot.
BRING BACK THE CAPE!!!!
It should not matter on how many or how few viewers it got, it was a great show. Screw other shows, this one was good, people just do not want fantasy shows, they want those stupid reality shows, where boring people can become famous and have money, screw nbc, done watching this channel
[…] NBC cancels The Cape […]
Typical of networks lately cbs nbc they are all the same this is no different than when CBS canceled jericho after the first season just as it was getting better. Everyone is about instant gratification that is why all these reality shows exist instead of developing a proper story Cape could have been better once the characters were given more time to develop. Networks that come up with shows like jersey shore should get fined for exposing people to such stupidity.
The problem is that you keep creating new show and it starts to flip flop and twist and turn and at that point makes it hard to follow a story line and follow a story and what people need to do is just play the story over and over again and repeat will solve problems and create less cancellations of show….Just let a show ride for a while and repeat is key okay but yes I THOUGHT IT LOOKED GOOD BUT THE SHOW WAS RUSHED AND PULLED…Just like that!
My son and I really enjoyed watching “The Cape.” It was a very unique idea, had a great cast, and it kept you wondering what would happen next. I’m very sorry to see it has been canceled.
