bbc-one-renewed-cancelled-blandings-season-twoAnother callback for a show across the pond, as BBC One renewed Blandings for season two. Harry Potter fans will find several actors from the series, but most prominently the likes of Peter Pettigrew there.

BBC One announces that Blandings, the period comedy series based on the novels of PG Wodehouse, will return for a second series.

Commissioned by Danny Cohen, Director, Television (in his previous role as Controller, BBC One); Shane Allen, Controller Comedy; and Kristian Smith, Executive Editor, Comedy Commissioning; and produced by Mammoth Screen, the series will air on BBC One early 2014.

Blandings will see Timothy Spall (The Syndicate, Harry Potter films, The King’s Speech) and Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous, Jam & Jerusalem, French & Saunders) reprise their roles as the absent-minded Lord Emsworth (known as Clarence to his friends) and his indomitable sister Connie, alongside Jack Farthing (Da Vinci’s Demons) as Clarence’s feckless son, Freddie.

The series is once again adapted from the Blandings Castle books by writer Guy Andrews (Lost In Austen).

Guy says: “As ever, all Clarence wants is to be left in peace with his beloved pig. But events conspire against him as never before. His incorrigibly rakish brother Galahad is on the prowl with a glittering monocle and a case full of shocking memoirs. Other guests and impostors include a voracious Hollywood producer, a dancing saxophonist secretary, a leather-gusseted religious maniac, Clarence’s frankly terrifying sister Charlotte and – worst of all – the poker-wielding Duke of Dunstable, the rudest man in Shropshire. Will tranquillity ever reign at Blandings Castle, even for an afternoon?”
