Hung-HBO-cancelled-renewedJust when I thought it was set for the year, boom, a whole batch of renewals and cancellations to add to the renewed shows on 2011 and all the cancelled shows on 2011lists.

In this case, HBO cancelled Hung, in a very charged with info day, that also saw How to Make it in America cancelled, Bored to Death cancelled and Enlightened renewed for a second season.

“Hung” had healthy-ish numbers, posting the the largest audience out of the four shows. The Thomas Jane led show averaged 3.9 million viewers — including multiple linear telecasts, DVR and On Demand usage — in its third season.
Problem was, it meant going down 44% from the 6.9 million garnered during the second season.

Thus HBO cancels Hung and that´s it. The cabler needs timeslot to acommodate new shows and something gotta go. The decision as to give the critically acclaimed Laura Dern led show another shot, and cancel Hung while at it.

Hung had a very solid first season but went a little down from then on, so, critics-wise I see and understand the decision to cancel Hung, but it rated well still, although HBO is not all about the ratings.
