Things looked good for Ruby and the Rockits for a while… but now everything is pointing towards Ruby and the Rockits being cancelled for good…
And now, Ruby and the Rockits is cancelled by ABC Family, according to Ruby herself, actress Alexa Vega on her Twitter… I liked the show though…
Ruby & The Rockits is an ABC Studios’ half-hour multi-cam comedy series executive produced by Shaun Cassidy (Invasion) and Marsh McCall (Carpoolers). (The pilot was directed by Ted Wass). The series premiered on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 8:30 pm.
It was created by Shaun Cassidy, the creator of American Gothic and Invasion and brother of show cast member Patrick Cassidy and half-brother of the show star David Cassidy. Also, their youngest brother, Ryan Cassidy, works on the show in a behind-the-scenes capacity.
On September 12, 2009, it was announced that ABC Family had canceled Ruby and the Rockits. The last episode of season one is expected to air on September 22, 2009.
What is Ruby & The Rockits About? – Plot
Ruby & The Rockits follows Patrick Gallagher, a former teen icon, who has chosen to lead a quiet life with his wife Audie (herself an ex-’80s music video dancer) and two sons. But when his former Rockits band mate and brother, David, shows up unexpectedly with his new-found teenage daughter in town, the Gallagher family’s life becomes anything but normal. David, who refuses to give up his past glory days, comes to Patrick for help raising Ruby while he continues to perform. Patrick must now put the past with David behind them in order to help raise Ruby and keep order within the rest of the Gallagher clan.
Ruby and The Rockits was written by former teen idol Shaun Cassidy and Ed Yeager, with teleplay by Ed Yeager and Marsh McCall. Former teen idol David Cassidy (The Partridge Family), his brother Patrick Cassidy (Smallville), Katie A. Keane, Alexa Vega (Spy Kids), and Austin Butler (Zoey 101) star in the series.
After the second episode of Ruby and the Rockits had debuted on ABC Family, iTunes put up the Pilot episode for free.

YESSSSSSSSS Im very sad that Ruby & The Rockits is getting canceled its a great show for the whole family and it needs to stay on th air!!!!!!!
What a bummer. Why don’t these guys give it a chance. 10 episodes which started in the summer is not enough to tell whether it will be a hit. shame on abc

This is the first time our entire family has looked forword to watching a show that made us all laugh together. The cast did a wonderful Job and all deserve an emmy. The show was picked up so fast after Shaun and David came up with the Idea for the show. I know they had a very short time to put these together .They did an outstanding Job. Can you imagine if they had until next season what they could come up with? Abc is throwing away a masterpiece of a family show. We don’t have near enough wholesome family shows to watch.I’m sick the same old stuff that is on these days that promote underaged sex, are violent, blood, and borderline pornographic.I feel sorry but whom made the final decision on this show being cancelled will eat his heart out if another network picks it up. It would make a great Friday night show like we had when we were kids.
I am sorry, but you all are making a mistake taking Ruby and the Rockits off. I enjoyed the singing and they are so funny as a family, I think that you should put them back on the air. My family just love them and isn’t that what ABC Family station is where families can watch decent family TV!!!!!
I do believe that ABC network tends to cancel too many shows based on revenues that sometimes are up and sometimes are down. If “Cheers” was cancelled because it had poor ratings in it’s first episode… well, you get the idea.
That was the one show i looked forward to on tuesdays please put it back on air!!!! people loved it!!!!!

Adam, I couldn’t agree more! How about getting rid of ‘Make it or Break It’ along with ‘Secret Life’. ABC Family was once my favorite channel, now it’s a joke.

what the heck. i loved this show! it combined comedy, music, love, and a happy interesting family into a great show. it had pretty good messages and it was awesome. it is a good show for all ages above 8 and is real, much better then abcs other crap

This is an excellent show with infectious music and wonderful acting. The whole family could watch it together. Once again, those in power are way out of touch. I kept looking for it, and thought they should be advertising it soo. Hopefully, someone in charge will see the jewel they have and continue.

I loved this show. I watched every episode every week. This is stupid.
I am very disappointed to see this show is not coming back my daughter loved it. My husband even liked watching it with her, my son would watch it. Made me think they may be creating family shows again. It’s sad these people don’t have a clue what America likes. The bring back secrete life which is total crap for kids to watch the values stink. It just shows kids more awful ways to behave and talk to their parents. Not to mention the parents in these shows stink also. Wake up & start showing good for family shows again. ABC Family is NOT all that family oriented.
