And this is a special from folks at Hallmark for the first of the year, as this uber traditional parade is coming back for its 124th run: The 124th Tournament of Roses Parade will air on Hallmark Channel January 1.

Hallmark Channel’s coverage of the festivities begins bright and early with a peek behind the scenes at the preparations for the parade, with more than 900 volunteers laboring for a combined 80,000 hours to make it all happen. The numbers utilized for the parade are downright astonishing, featuring more than 500,000 roses and more than 600 tons of steel. There will be 45 floats, 23 marching bands, 20 equestrian units and the 2013 Tournament of Roses Royal Court with Rose Parade Queen Vanessa Manjarrez. This year’s parade Grand Marshal is Dr. Jane Goodall, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of Peace. Let the grandeur begin!

When you talk about history and tradition, there is not an American event more traditional and historic than the Tournament of Roses Parade. It originally began way back on Jan. 1, 1890. It’s been eye-popping a New Year’s Day celebration ever since, capturing the excitement and spectacle of breathtaking flower-covered floats, marching bands, and equestrians as they entertain millions of spectators around the world from Pasadena, CA.
