Thursday night’s telecast of “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” featuring a guest appearance by President Barack Obama (11.2 household rating) was the biggest “Tonight” rating in the overnights in four years — the night of a special tribute to Johnny Carson — and matched its highest number in nearly 11 years. The boost also helped “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” (3.9), which had its best number yet.

During his appearance on the Tonight Show Thursday, President Obama cracked a joke about his poor bowling skills comparing them to the “Special Olympics or something.” After the interview, Obama’s deputy press secretary Bill Burton told reporters: “The President made an offhand remark making fun of his own bowling that was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics.” Is that an apology? Is this a gaffe worth talking about?
