The show got great ratings for the finale, so this decision was expected, and paired to the fact that A&E cancelled The Glades, it was very much a matter of time before the announcement came from somewhere that Longmire got renewed.
Even though this wasn´t officially announced by A&E, Executive Producer John Coveny said on Twitter that Longmire got renewed for season three, when he tweeted:
Thanks to the 5 million plus weekly fans (live+7). Young and older skewing alike! The call just came: SEASON 3 for #Longmire is a GO!
“Longmire,” is based on the Walt Longmire Mystery novels by best-selling author Craig Johnson. The series follows its central character, Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor – The Matrix), the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming. Widowed only a year, Longmire is man in psychic repair that buries his pain behind a brave face and dry wit but is steadfast in his dedication to both his job and community.
And now the show got renewed. Longmire also stars Lou Diamond Phillips (“Numb3rs”), Katee Sackhoff (“Battlestar Gallactica”), Bailey Chase (“Damages”), Cassidy Freeman (“Smallville”) and Adam Bartley (“Criminal Minds”). Hunt Baldwin (“The Closer,” “Trust Me”) and John Coveny (“The Closer,” “Trust Me”) wrote the project and are executive producing along with Greer Shephard (“The Closer,” “Nip/Tuck”) and Michael M. Robin (“The Closer,” “Rizzoli & Isles”).
