This is the second book of Devin Brown on The Hobbit I read, as I already reviewed The Christian World of The Hobbit a while back. I have to say I enjoyed this book a bit more, as it is wider in its target. The Lessons it contains can be read by everybody, nevermind which is his / her religion; and that is quite an interesting difference between the two books.
It is also focused on a few teachings from The Hobbit and goes deep inside the meaning and the life lessons instead of translating Tolkien´s words to a biblical analogy.
This is the kind of book you will want to read with a notebook close around or at least with a pencil, as you will want to underline some quotes and phrases from both JRR Tolkien and the author, Professor Brown.
I got the book on my mail last week and had a weekend long chess tournament, so I started reading it on Tuesday, and by Thursday the book was already finished, underlined and a bit bent. And that´s a testament to a good book. Author Devin Brown has managed to bring another good book to our bookshelves. Now I´m going to try and read some of his books on Narnia. After all, they make for good reads. I can give this book some serious recommendation for anyone liking The Hobbit and Tolkien fans; as well as those who like to read food for thought kind of books.
