What do Michelle Obama and Mark Zuckerberg have in common? They are both featured in Season two finale of Sundance Channel’s Peabody Award-winning series, Brick City, that will air this Sunday, March 13th at 8PM ET/PT. The series explores a community known for its architectural style, urban strength and human resilience, Newark, New Jersey, and has been hailed by the Associated Press as a “rich, remarkably entertaining series.”
In the finale episode, “Judgment Day”, Mayor Booker convincingly wins a second term, but the drama continues as the Central Ward council seat goes to a run-off election. Newark’s fiscal woes come to a head when the Mayor’s budget is rejected by a newly rebellious City Council that now includes two insurgents, Ras Baraka and Darrin Sharif. Creep makes a big decision about his relationship with Jayda, and judgment day arrives for Director McCarthy and Jiwe. Season two closes with what is arguably Mayor Booker’s most impressive accomplishment, announced during an appearance with Facebook mogul Mark Zuckerberg along with launching his part in the “Let’s Move” campaign with First Lady Michelle Obama.
The six, one-hour episodes, executive produced by Marc Levin, Mark Benjamin and Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, chronicles the lives of Newark’s charismatic Mayor, Cory Booker; Police Director Garry McCarthy; and the citizens of Newark as they continue to address issues that resonate for urban dwellers across America: how do you continue to forward change in your community or even as an individual, when the setbacks are coming at you fast and furious?
