Dan and Laura Dotson, the husband-and-wife celebrity auctioneers who star on A&E’s hit TV show Storage Wars, are moving into new territory. Together with their longtime friends and fellow collectibles experts from Justuff the Yard Sale Store of Redlands, Calif., the Dotsons are launching a new one-day mega-show – The Yard Sale Expo & Flea Market at Fairplex Pomona.
The event is family oriented and is going to mix yard sales with antique, vintage and commercial items selling. The Yard Sale Expo & Flea Market will debut on Saturday, June 29 on 50 dedicated acres of the Fairplex in eastern Los Angeles County. Show hours are 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The idea behind a mammoth venue that combines yard sale, flea market and antiques vendors arose during discussions between the Dotsons and members of the related Pierce, Heard and Matthews families, whose four generations jointly operate Justuff.
“Throughout southern California, it has become increasingly difficult for people to hold yard sales because of municipal and homeowners association restrictions,” said Expo partner Karen Pierce. “The Yard Sale Expo is an affordable new way to sell all sorts of things.” Note: Firearms, explosives, food, automotive and illegal items prohibited.
The Expo offers owners of antiques, collectibles and mom-and-pop shops an additional venue in which to market their merchandise. Dan Dotson said he also expects regulars from storage-locker auctions will set up at the Expo. “Most storage-locker buyers don’t have a permanent retail location,” said Dotson. “At this show, everything has a chance to sell. We think some exciting discoveries could emerge.”
Shopping at a single location is economical. “No driving all over town to chase bargains. You park your car and forget about it till your Expo shopping is all done,” Pierce said. Onsite ATMs provide extra convenience for shoppers who may run low on cash.
In addition to a fleet of gourmet food trucks offering a variety of delicious options, there will be a beer and wine garden, a live band for light mood music, and bounce houses and slides for children.
A special highlight is the live lunchtime auction of antiques and quality collectibles to be conducted by Dan and Laura Dotson. Consignors should bring potential auction items to the Fairplex on Friday, June 28, or by 5 a.m. on Expo/auction day.
Each $49 vendor space is 17ft by 25ft, with easy entry and onsite parking for vehicles or trailers up to 20ft in length. Vendors may share spaces and, if desired, stay overnight in their vehicles. There is onsite security at Fairplex. Nearby hotels, motels and the Fairplex RV Park offer additional options for those wishing to arrive the night before the Expo.
General admission (8 a.m. – 4 p.m.) $5. Children under 12 free with adult. Early buying (6 – 8 a.m.) $8. See additional information and reserve a space at www.theyardsaleexpo.com. Tel. 909-222-0924.
