Cancelled and Renewed Shows 2012: Showtime cancels Weeds at season eight

weeds-cancelled-renewed-season-eight-showtimeMore information to fill the lists for cancelled shows of 2012 and renewed shows of 2012.   And Weeds getting cancelled was expected after eight season of air, and no Romany Malco on the show. But, that does not mean it is not sad news. Since, as David Nevins, Showtime Entertainment President said, “There were two shows, Weeds and Dexter, that really got Showtime taken seriously for cutting-edge original programming”.

But, since Showtime is used to do things right, Weeds will get a whole season for the farewell to close and go out in its own law, well deservedly with a forehead held high. Continue reading

Cancelled and Renewed Shows 2011: Weeds gets renewed for season eight

weeds-cancelled-renewed-season-eight-showtimeStill trying to keep lists for renewed shows on 2011 and all the cancelled shows on 2011 updated, and there are some news coming for the renewal one, from Showtime again.

Showtime renewed Weeds for season eight. SHOWTIME is packing another hit of its highest-rated comedy series WEEDS, picking up an eighth season. Thirteen new episodes will go into production in 2012.

Created by Emmy® Award winner Jenji Kohan and produced by Lionsgate, WEEDS has been honored with multiple Emmy® and Golden Globe® Award nominations and wins over the course of its seven seasons on air. Viewers have watched and marveled as Nancy Botwin (series star Mary-Louise Parker in her Golden Globe® Award-winning performance) has progressed from a suburban widow who turns to selling nickel bags to make ends meet for her family to a full-fledged marijuana queenpin.

Last season jumped ahead three years and picked up with Nancy finishing a stint in federal prison. Her brother-in-law Andy (Justin Kirk) and sons, Silas (Hunter Parrish) and Shane (Alexander Gould) – with Doug (Kevin Nealon) in tow — were camped out in Copenhagen during her incarceration. They were all reunited in New York City where Nancy re-launched her pot business, worked at a hedge fund, fought off competition, and fought for custody of her son, little Stevie, from her sister Jill (special guest star Jennifer Jason Leigh). The season finale, which aired in September, showed the family dining together, happily residing at a Connecticut estate. But when a lone gunman fired a fateful bullet, viewers were left to wonder which of our beloved Botwins was the target, setting the stage for another audacious season.

Twilight Saga Eclipse, Weeds and Big C headline Monday night in Showtime

weeds-big-c-twilight-saga-showtimeWhat´s the best way to start your season? Probably having a huge blockbuster as your lead-in.
And that´s precisely what Showtime´s giving Weeds and Big C season premieres to get a boost.
To kick off the return of its hit original series WEEDS (10 PM) and THE BIG C (10:30 PM), SHOWTIME will premiere the mega-hit ECLIPSE, the third installment of the Twilight Saga, on Monday, June 27th at 8 PM ET/PT.  The teen vampire phenomenon stars Kristen Stewart as “Bella Swan,” a teenager who finds herself surrounded by danger and targeted by the vengeful vampire “Victoria” (Bryce Dallas Howard).  In the meantime, she must choose between her love for vampire “Edward Cullen” (Robert Pattinson) and her friendship with werewolf “Jacob Black” (Taylor Lautner).  The film is directed by David Slade and based on the wildly best-selling novel by Stephenie Meyer.

Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker) and Cathy Jamison (Laura Linney) are back on SHOWTIME with the debut of the new seasons of WEEDS and THE BIG C.  On WEEDS, Nancy has spent three long years in Federal prison for murder.  Now she’s out and back on the scene — harder and bolder than ever, which is a necessity now that she and the Botwins have relocated to New York City.  While on THE BIG C, Cathy has become an all-out warrior in her Stage 4 melanoma fight and gets a new oncologist (special guest appearance by Alan Alda) and a new friend (guest star Hugh Dancy).

The Borgias stars Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons as Rodrigo Borgia, the cunning, manipulative patriarch of The Borgia family who builds an empire through the corruption of the holy Catholic Church and orchestrates a relentless reign of power and flamboyant cruelty.  The series begins as Rodrigo (Irons), bribes, buys and muscles his way into the papacy becoming Pope Alexander VI.  The series is set in one of the most significant periods in history: the Western Renaissance and the discovery of the New World. Contemporaries of Da Vinci, Michelangelo and the Medicis, the Borgias were controversial and heretical, not so much for performing acts unheard of in their time, but for being better at it than their enemies. Along the way, the family commits virtually every sin in the book and invented more than a few of their own.  Academy Award®-winning director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) serves as creator, executive producer and writer of all nine episodes, in addition to directing the first two episodes.

Meanwhile, student filmmakers Marshall (KEIR GILCHRIST) and Lionel Trane (MICHAEL WILLETT) make their first commitment together when they purchase a new video camera for film class.  All the college talk makes Tara realize how badly she wants to finish the last few credits of her own degree, and so, with the help of Ted Mayo (MICHAEL HITCHCOCK), Tara enrolls in a few classes, including a psychology course taught by the charismatic Dr. Jack Hattaras (EDDIE IZZARD). But Max (JOHN CORBETT) is fearful that the stress of college will cause Tara to transition…or worse.

Premiere: Thursday, March 31st at 8 PM ET/PT

First time filmmaker Leslie Zemeckis paints an “affectionate and engaging” (New York Daily News) portrait of the art of burlesque and its relevance in cultural history.  Burlesque was one of America’s most popular forms of live entertainment in the first half of the 20th century.  Gaudy, bawdy and spectacular, the shows entertained thousands of paying customers every night of the week and yet the legacy of burlesque is often misunderstood and left out of the history books.  By telling the intimate and surprising stories from its golden age through the women (and men) who lived it, Behind the Burly Q reveals the true story of burlesque as it experiences a new renaissance.

Cancelled and Renewed Shows 2010: Showtime renews Weeds for a seventh season

showtime-renews-cancels-weeds-seven-seasonWe are reviewing all the cancelled shows and renewed shows of the season.

And this one is not only great news, but also a very good practice by Showtime.

Showtime renews Weeds for a seventh season, after solid premiere numbers.

Weeds sixth season premiere, which garnered over 6 million viewers – a record premiere episode for the series. made it easy for Showtime to decide that Weeds gets renewed and the seventh season (By Lionsgate) will premiere on the network in 2011.

Showtime’s critically acclaimed comedy series WEEDS took to the open road for season six, to hilarious ends. Dubbed by TV Guide as “….TV’s most compelling bad mama,” Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker in her Golden Globe Award-winning performance) and family are now on the lam after Shane (Alexander Gould) killed Mexican VIP Pilar (Kate del Castillo) with a croquet mallet. To elude the Mexican FBI, police and mafia, they grab what they can, toss their cell phones and IDs and get rolling, taking odd jobs and meeting new characters along the way (season six guest stars include Richard Dreyfuss, Linda Hamilton, Mark Paul Gosselaar, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Alanis Morissette and more). WEEDS is executive produced by creator Jenji Kohan, Roberto Benabib and Matthew Salsberg and produced by Lionsgate.

So, if you read all these things, of course it´s a no brainer to renew Weeds for a seventh season! Good move by Showtime, who, let´s all remember hosts some of the finest TV Shows nowadays, including Dexter, Californication and The Big C.

Are you happy Showtime renewed Weeds?

Complete Recap and Spoilers of Weeds Season Premiere S05xE01 – Wonderful Wonderful

Any show starring Mary Louise Parker is worth watching. And if that show is none other than Weeds, then it´s great TV.

Tonight on Season Premiere of Weeds, the all new episode. In a post filled with Weeds Spoilers.

Complete Recap and Spoilers of Weeds Season Premiere S05xE01 – Wonderful Wonderful

(Beginning moments after last season’s finale…) Cesar isn’t happy his boss Esteban is backing off the whole Nancy-must-die-for-her-betrayal plan. The sonogram of his young son has apparently changed the mind of the Mexican mayor/drug runner. Cesar decides no one can know they’re letting her off — he shoots the two witnesses in the room. Esteban tells Cesar to drive a freaked out Nancy home. Thinking this means “go shoot her in the desert” she volunteers to drive herself. He lets her go.

Dean and Isabelle play cards. He gets a call from his daughter Quinn’s boyfriend, demanding ransom for Celia. But he’s broke and she’s his ex, so he tells him to do what he needs to do. Quinn, not happy, gives her boyfriend a knee to the crotch. Nice family.

Nancy waits in the mall. She sees a spot of blood on her purse.

At the house, Silas lays out his land-buying plan to Andy and Doug. Doug shows off his rope burns from auto-erotic asphyxiation. Shane comes in with a haircut and an ear ring. They debate what to do with Nancy’s room if she doesn’t come back. She does.

In bed the next day, Nancy gets the ransom call for Celia. She explains they’re really not friends and hangs up.

Andy comes in with a plan. He thinks they should flee. “It’s the Mexican mafia, there’s no where to go,” she says. He suggests Copenhagen. And, he adds, “I love you.” She responds by telling him she’s pregnant. Andy leaves. Cesar calls, telling Nancy to be at an address at 2 p.m.

Shane and his groupies hang out in the library, where he sells weed. His English teacher comes by to cop. He has 22 papers to grade that night and they’re all on Anne Frank.

Sanjay talks to Agent Roy Till. Till gets a call from Mexico. It’s someone calling demanding ransom for Celia.

Silas looks into Doug’s growing-in-a national park plan. Doug gets the Celia ransom call. He hangs up. Andy sulks over Nancy. Doug wants in on the plan. Andy’s phone rings. Yes, he knows Celia. “So what, people die, every day?” Then he starts babbling about people dying and having babies, including women in their 40s. Silas asks who’s having a baby.

In captivity, Celia can’t believe no one will pay her ransom. She talks to Rudolfo, telling him he doesn’t have to put up with his daughter hurting him. Quinn interrupts as he’s saying it’s his fault for making her mad. She says if no one will pay they’ll kill her mom and sell her organs. She orders Rudolfo to go have sex with her. Kidnapper foreplay.

Nancy waits in a OB-GYN’s exam room. Esteban comes in with Cesar, speaking to the doctor in Spanish about what tests they can run on the baby. Nancy asks what’s going on. Esteban gives her some forms to sign. She resists and he asks everyone to leave. She suggests they go to her doctor. Instead, he lays her down on the table and puts her feet in the stirrups, saying instead they’ll see his doctor. When he leaves Nancy seems to realize what she’s gotten herself into. She lies on the table and cries.

Celia asks her daughter if maybe enough is enough. She offers to charge a week at the spa for the both of them. Quinn tells her mom what’s going to happen to her organs on the black market. She wants to be there when they cut out her mom’s heart just to make sure she has one. Celia whines about surviving cancer just to face this. Rudolfo points out they can’t sell Celia’s organs since she had radiation. Quinn attacks Celia, but Rudolfo fends her off and kicks her out.

Shane comes in when Silas and Doug are prepping for their camping/pot growing adventure and asks why Andy is baking tons of banana bread. Doug blurts out that Nancy is pregnant. Which is news to her son Shane.

Nancy comes home to the lovely smelling bread. “Well, I’ve been thinking,” Andy says, “Just because you’ve been a slutty irresponsible slutty slut and had unprotected sex with a Mexican gangster, that doesn’t mean we can’t be friends.” She asks Andy to take Shane up to her sister’s. Shane walks in, not believing the news. She confirms it. “And you’re how old?” is his response. Silas asks when the abortion is. She’s having the baby. Andy says it’s the key to keeping her Mexican boyfriend from killing them all. Then she tells Shane he’s going to live with his aunt in Oakland. He expresses the sentiment “forget that” using stronger language. Shane and Silas start fighting. Nancy picks up a loaf of banana bread to break it up, but burns her hand and drops the loaf on the floor. Andy shouts at her: “You ruin everything you touch!”

A little while later, Silas ignores her as they leave to plant his clones in the forest. So do Shane and Andy as they leave for Oakland. Nancy is left alone.

Later, she drinks a coffee at an outdoor mall. Loud music starts blaring and people start dancing. Someone tells Nancy its a flash mob, done “’cause it’s cool.” She cracks up as people of all ages and types start dancing. Then the music stops and they walk away. And Nancy sees Cesar watching her.
