I had the chance to have a little chat and interview with both Eva and Marina Levitis, from the new Lifetime show Russian Dolls about the show and what it means to become a reality star.
What is Russian Dolls About? Plot Synopsis
With unprecedented access to one of the most interesting and mysterious communities in the U.S., Lifetime presents Russian Dolls (formerly Brighton Beach), its all-new reality series following the fast-paced comings and goings of eight larger-than-life men and women who live fully, love passionately and work hard as only they can in Brooklyn’s historic Russian-American neighborhood, Brighton Beach. Over the course of 12 half-hour episodes, Russian Dolls provides a rare and entertaining look at Brighton Beach’s colorful multi-generational families whose dramas and dreams contend with their Russian heritage while living in this famous, alluring, vibrant and highly protective community. By going deep inside the daily life of this charismatic group of close-knit friends and family, we’ll see that they are anything but wooden dolls.

Russian Dolls Q&A Interview with Eva and Marina Levitis
SeriesandTV: At what point did you stop realizing, if at all, that cameras were surrounding you? Can you actually be natural in a reality show?
Marina: You know the cameras are there, but you can control and get used to them.
It´s a learning process.
Eva: For me there´s no difference. I´m always myself, it comes natural to me.
Seriesandtv: What is it like to be joining a reality show?
Marina: It´s fun, it´s not about us alone, it´s about a lot of women. And a lot of good and bad happens. And that´s the beauty. We have to be careful in that we are characters and how our characters behave.
Eva: I´d love to be an inspiration for women my age. To be happy and go out. To go to padgeants, to enjoy life, and to just be happy.
Seriesandtv: What are the things you miss most from before cameras following you, and what are the best things of having them?
Marina: We hope the best thing is that it will benefit our business, and more people will come to the neighborhood.
The worst things is obviously seeing people at the worst. Fighting and all. I´m a peaceful person. So getting into the normal fights just make me uncomfortable, but we have to know and differentiate the characters.
Eva: I´m a performer for padgeants, so I´m used to not having privacy and be with cameras and all.
