On the Tuesday, Dec 6th edition of “The Young Turks with Cenk Uygur” series host Cenk Uygur was joined by former Vice President and Current TV founder Al Gore.  Gore shared his thoughts on the Republican primaries and Ron Paul.  Additionally, he discussed Obama’s performance and reacted to Newt Gingrich’s comments that his climate change ad with Nancy Pelosi was the “dumbest single thing I’ve done.” Gore also responded Uygur’s inquiry about Gore’s plans for the 2016 elections by saying: “I’m a recovering politician. The chances of a relapse are diminishing rapidly.”

Al Gore on the Republican Primaries:

“I wouldn’t pick either one of the them [to be President]….I think the whole thing has been really a troubling exercise in the sense that the condition of the political dialog in the country, especially in the Republican Party, drives all these candidates toward positions that some of them –you have to believe—know that these positions are absurd.”

Al Gore on Ron Paul:

“I think  some of his positions are at least courageous because he is willing to take on the conventional wisdom in his party and in the country generally…He does have a following and I think it will be interesting to see how he does. I don’t think he is going to be the next ‘not Mitt Romney’”

Al Gore in Response to Newt Gingrich’s comments that a climate change ad he did was, “the dumbest single thing I’ve done”:

“Im sorry that he’s changed his position but what it says is more about the condition of the political system today, particularly in the Republican party, but really across the board. The special interests have so much power, they are able to bludgeon these candidates to make them toe the line.”
