PilotCBS launched a new show last night called Battle Creek, about two detectives with different views on the world team up and using cynicism, guile and deception, they clean up the streets of Battle Creek.
It is presented as “Not your typical cop show”, but after all it is your typical show. Not that it´s a bad thing. It´s just not a different kind of show.
The show has great pedigree, coming from creators Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) and David Shore (Dr House), and starring Josh Duhamel, Dean Winters, Kal Penn and many more.

The big problem for this show is it premiered to lousy numbers, namely Mulaney´s type of numbers, and you know that for a comedy it´s bad, for a CBS police show it´s terrible.

Maybe the low budget team part is what makes it different, and funnier than most; and give it a shot at staying on our TV sets. But of the cop shows so far premiered in 2015, Backstrom is by far the best option. Battle Creek is a good DVR option though. It´s still before the premiere of CSI: Cyber so we have yet to know which will be second option and which third. But if the network gives Battle Creek pilot enough run with reairing, it can manage to get some buzz going and establish better ratings. After all, it shouldn´t be so low rated. It is far better a show than those numbers indicate.

And the tension of Duhamel´s character joining the team at Battle Creek can make for good TV moments.

So far, I´ll give it a C+ and a spot on my DVR for three more episodes before making a final decision. You should give it a shot too.
