The show, Set in Birmingham in the 1950s, WPC 56 stars Jennie Jacques as WPC Gina Dawson, the first woman police constable to serve in her West Midlands hometown in 1956.

The hugely successfully first series gained an average audience of 1.7 million and 22 per cent share. Second season of the show will consist of five episodes and filming is already underway since yesterday.

Mike Hobson, Series Producer, says: “I am delighted to announce that the second series of WPC 56 started filming on Sunday in and around Birmingham. The city offers a rich source of period locations that we plan to revisit including the Jewellery Quarter and the wonderful Black Country Living Museum… the Midland’s own ‘Hollywood Back Lot’. I hope the good people of Birmingham will enjoy seeing their home on screen when the show airs in early 2014.”
