This year, freshman series have a better luck in terms of joining the list of renewed shows of 2012 rather than the list of cancelled shows of 2012. Not that shows aren´t getting cut, but the ratio is in favor of the comeback call. Now, CBS renews Vegas for full season pickup order, by adding more episodes, bringing the total count for the first season of Vegas to 22 episodes.
Vegas is the highest rated new series in total viewers averaging a little bit under 15 million viewers, and making an interesting 2.7/8 in 18-49 demo, something expected, being a subject more attractive to older demos, and a mature star in Dennis Quaid.
With an enormous and ultra talented ensemble cast, it is a pleasure to have a show like Vegas on air: Vegas stars Quaid, Michael Chiklis, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jason O’Mara, Taylor Handley and Sarah Jones.
What is Vegas about? Plot Synopsis
Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis star in VEGAS, a drama inspired by the true story of former Las Vegas Sheriff Ralph Lamb, a fourth-generation rancher tasked with bringing order to Las Vegas in the 1960s, a gambling and entertainment mecca emerging from the tumbleweeds. Ralph Lamb wants to be left in peace to run his ranch, but Las Vegas is now swelling with outsiders and corruption which are intruding on his simple life. Recalling Lamb’s command as a military police officer during World War II, the Mayor appeals to his sense of duty to look into a murder of a casino worker – and so begins Lamb’s clash with Vincent Savino, a ruthless Chicago gangster who plans to make Vegas his own. Assisting Lamb in keeping law and order are his two deputies: his diplomatic, even-keeled brother, Jack, and his charming but impulsive son, Dixon. Ambitious Assistant District Attorney Katherine O’Connell, who grew up on the ranch next to the Lambs, also lends a hand in preserving justice. In VEGAS, two powerful men – Lamb and Savino – are engaged in a fierce battle for control of the budding oasis, and for both of them, folding is not an option.

Not only does Vegas have a great premise that allows for a lot of high stakes drama, but they cast top notch actors. The writing seems pretty good so far too, with a murder mystery and larger scope of ongoing crime that makes the show so in depth. My DISH coworker says it’s getting decent ratings too, which I figure should guarantee even more success and money to keep it a class act show. I found out about it when my Hopper PrimeTime Anytime feature I enabled, automatically recorded it. I like the fact that I find lots of new shows to watch, since every major network show records each day.
