Donny Deutsch parodied version headlines this new show on USA Network, a network that, after the end of Psych, Burn Notice, White Collar and Covert Affairs I had trouble watching, as it was like hanging out with an ex for me, lol. Now that I´m going back to watching this channel, they bring Donny!, “donny!” is a soft-scripted comedic series that takes a satirical look at the media, wealth and modern romance through the eyes a fictionalized version of the real-life famed ad man, single dad and TV personality Donny Deutsch. The six-episode half-hour series also stars Emily Tarver (“Black-ish”).
The series is executive produced by Banks Tarver, Ken Druckerman and Angie Day of Left/Right (“Odd Mom Out,” “Mob Wives,” “Small Town Security”) and Deutsch.
I watched the premiere with much skepticism, but really ended up having a lot of fun. The pilot was very funny and tackled sexting and selfies and social media when gone viral. It was actually a very good way on how to attack the episode. Some of the characters were presented in the show, but I´m looking forward for more of the Executive Producer´s character and the third assistant. They both seemed like winners for the rest of the series. Emily Tarver plays Pam, the Executive Producer on the show and the character to watch develop.
I am confident the show is going to evolve into a solid comedy performer in the parody / mockumentary category. I could bet Donny! is here to stay for a few seasons on USA Network. Have you watched the show? Let me know your thoughts, or follow me on Twitter for more scoop.
