Game of Thrones is one of the biggest shows these days, and since there´s less and less time until a new season premieres, it´s time to start celebrating. After all, today marks the day that season three hits the shelves in DVD and Blu-Ray format.

We already know that Game of Thrones is not scared to kill off a character here or there, or even a bunch in a massacre. As far as a favorite death scene is concerned, and as much as I hated to see Eddard Stark get beheaded at the end in the first season of Game of Thrones, because he was a great character, the patriarch of the noble Stark family, the beacon of righteousness in the show, and was played to perfection by Sean Bean. I still thought his death was executed shockingly brilliant! The way it was done, made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end! And for that alone, it is my favorite death scene. I hadn’t read any of the books prior to that point, so going in there was no spoilers for me.

With Game of Thrones is is really hard to choose since there have been several extremely memorable death scenes. If I’m going to choose just one then I will go with Ned Stark because up until the moment that the sword came down I kept thinking someone was going to swoop in and save him. I hadn’t read the books or had it spoiled for me so when it happened it was kind of jaw-dropping.since in my experience shows rarely kill off a central characters so soon.

My favorite death scene on Game of Thrones is Kraznys, the slave-trader, mostly because it is one of the first times (Besides Viserys) that a truly bad guy actually dies. Although Ned and the Red Wedding were definitely the most jaw-dropping scenes, it was Kraznys’ death that was the most satisfying and fun. We got to see Daenerys’ ability to control Drogon and her badass reveal that she spoke Valyrian.

My favorite death has to be the unfortunate death of Ned Stark. The series was picking up momentum every episode and it killed off its undoubtedly crowd favorite character even before the season finale?!?! The line, “Bring me his head” will forever bring me chills. It not only made us even more intrigued, but I felt genuine anger and sadness. It also made me forever wish that Joffrey dies a horrible and painful death.
My favourite death is definitely Viserys Targaryen! Not only is the death both violent and gruesome, it is tinged with a sense of irony that he now has the golden crown that he was promised. The effects are fantastic and the scene is both horrific yet satisfying.
Favourite death scene in Game of Thrones has to be Talisa Maegyr, the only character not in the books that gave the TV show more depth, in the book Jayne Westerling played a small part and was quite uninteresting, however Talisa had more of a past, a connection to slavery to compliment the themes of slavery with Daenerys’ story, and she bore Robb’s child, which made her death even more devastating however that much more real, and showed people that the Game of Thrones can take any victim, regardless of the large future their character may have.
The most obvious answer is definitely the slaughter that is known as “The Red Wedding”. The scene was just perfectly done and the acting was phenomenal. My heart sunk when I heard the musicians play “The Rains of Castamere” and again when Catelyn pulled back the sleeve of Roose Bolton to reveal he was wearing chainmail. That scene was so violent and so unexpected that after the scene I felt in shock for the rest of the week. I STILL can remember vividly the scream that Catelyn belted as she watched her son die and slit the throat of Walder Frey’s young wife. Definitely a chilling moment.
Renly Baratheon getting offed by the recently birthed smoke assassin.
When Bronn kills Vardis Egen in the battle to save Tryion and Lysa Arryn says that Bronn does not fight with honor. Then Bronn says, no, but he did. Such a good line! Shows the dark humor of the show but also that Bronn does not respect those in authority, only those who pay him.
Probably the first time Arya kills that boy. It just starts this whole flood of trouble for her and everyone around her. It puts everyone in danger. It also is just the beginning of her revenge kick.
My favorite death was probably Viserys Targaryen. It was a great scene and such a perfect end to that character. He finally got the golden crown he would do absolutely anything for. Plus it was a satisfying death rather than an extremely sad one. He definitely had it coming.

Catelyn and Robb Stark… Not to be cliché, really. Their deaths were extremely surprising. I still remember the feeling of shock I had when I realized their impending deaths at the same time Catelyn did when she saw that the guy next to her was wearing chain mail underneath, and the doors were closed and locked on them. Wow. That was intense.
My favorite death isn’t even a death that takes place on screen. It is when Daenerys locks Xaro into the empty vault.
Viserys Targaryen, it was brilliantly excecuted. His short lived happiness at being told he will finally get his gold crown, and his gasps for mercy when he finds out his crown will be a pot of melted gold porn over his head by Khal Drogo, ”A crown for King”
Although, like many have said, there have been many memorable/beautiful deaths throughout the series thus far I have come to the conclusion that one of the more “beautiful” deaths would have to have been Khal Drogo’s death. Despite the fact that I was thoroughly upset after the Red Wedding scene, I felt as though Khal’s death brought so much more to the story for Daenerys and ultimately the 7 Kingdoms. The fact that their love came from an arranged marriage and they were able to produce a child from love and strength was beautiful. Death has been shown throughout the show as something that has often come a lot from a quick or sudden attack yet Drogo’s came from a festered wound set off by a “witch” who simply wanted revenge on the Dothraki. Not only did Drogo die but his and Daenerys’s unborn baby boy. I felt like the death of someone who is supposed to be as strong as Drogo sent off by something as simple as a small wound is almost like a symbol regarding strength and how the smallest thing can initiate a tragic ending. I also felt like the fact that Daenerys had to rekill her own husband was beautifully tragic and selfless in a sense. She could have very well kept him alive as a vegetable but out of love and understanding, she had to smother him. The funeral was beautiful, too, for the Mother of Dragons set her dead husband ablaze and came out of it with dragons reborn. That is something spectacular and it basically created a reborn Daenerys who is much stronger than she once was and created a stronger future for the Dothraki people.

My favorite death by far is Viserys Targaryan receiving his crown of gold. It was just so painful and terrifying and also showed that Viserys wasn’t what he claimed to be; otherwise it wouldn’t have hurt him!

Everything about Ned’s death scene was amazing: Ned having to swallow his pride and the truth in order to save his life, Arya having to powerlessly watch from the audience, Sansa’s confidence that she had saved her father’s life, her sense of betrayal once Joffrey pulled his bait and switch, Cersei realizing that Joffrey was a loose cannon.
