Ok, Ausiello just reported it, Former 3rd rock from the sun star Kristen Johnston is going to be a regular in next season of Ugly Betty.
The role was supposedly being handed to Paula Abdul, but the former American Idol judge had quite a list of demands that exceeded what the producers were willing to give her, and along came Kristen.
“I’ve always considered myself a poor man’s Paula Abdul,” Johnston told Ausiello, who adds: She describes her Betty character as “Amanda in 10 years. She’s still trying to get into the right clubs, wearing tight dresses… tragic. I think [Helen] sees herself as Samantha from Sex and the City. Except, of course, she’s a temp.”
Kristen Johnston will first appear in the second half of Ugly Betty’s two-hour premiere on Oct. 9.

Kristen Johnston (born September 20, 1967) is an American stage, film, and television actress. She may be most famous for her Emmy Award winning role as Sally Solomon in the television series 3rd Rock from the Sun. She also starred as Wilma Flintstone in the sequel to the live-action movie adaptation of The Flintstones animated series. Kristen Johnston is also known for her tall 6′ (1.83 m) frame and relatively deep voice for an actress. In 2005, Johnston was also featured in six episodes of NBC’s ER. She has recently been cast as Patsy in the American version of the British TV show, Absolutely Fabulous.
