WW: It was in 2009 when your own sister was held captive for five months, so being a journalist, you all are incredibly courageous.
LL: I don’t think people recognize the risks that some journalists take, we all take security precautions very seriously but sometimes when you’re out there you just don’t know what could happen. There are so many unanticipated things that may come up. But I think it’s so important for us to support our journalists because we don’t want to remain an ignorant society and it takes courageous journalists to go out there.

LL: My sister is so great, she has a baby girl named Li Jefferson Clayton. And she feels so lucky to be here and to be able to enjoy her baby.
Lisa Ling On Working With Oprah Winfrey on OWN:
WW: You work now on the OWN network, how is it working for the Big O?
LL: It’s amazing – I’ve actually worked for her show for a long time, and it’s been such an honor to work for OWN. But she can definitely be intense – you know I always get a little nervous whenever I’m around Oprah because she stares so intently at you and the reason she’s doing it is because she’s listening so intently to what you’re saying, but sometimes she doesn’t react to what you’re saying right away … and I’m already nervous [to begin with] … but I love that about her, and that’s why she’s as good as she is, because she’s listening so deeply.
