Are you ready to start drooling in front of your TV? Come on… tell the truth… DirecTV is going to make you…
For the first time ever, Sports Illustrated will identify all of the models chosen for the 2011 SI Swimsuit issue prior to the issue’s release. Airing in the form of a thirty minute special, The 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Selection Show will premiere exclusively on DIRECTV’s The 101 Network at 8:00 p.m. EST on Friday, February 11, 2011.
Hosted by Sports Illustrated senior writer and DIRECTV sportscaster Dan Patrick and former SI Swimsuit model Mallory Snyder, the special will feature the unveiling of the seventeen models using a unique bracket system broken down by photo shoot location, showcasing the four total regions where the 2011 Swimsuit Issue was photographed. Christine Teigen, Hilary Rhoda and Damaris Lewis, as well as a 2011 rookie will provide viewers with highlights and behind-the-scenes access from each of the photo shoots.
The show is part of DIRECTV’s multiplatform sponsorship of the powerhouse Swimsuit franchise encompassing five platforms, more than any other 2011 Swimsuit sponsor. DIRECTV’s eight page print ad buy is the largest single ad buy in the past five years of Swimsuit issues and will also sponsor three of the 2011 Swimsuit apps that will debut on February 15, when Swimsuit launches nationwide. DIRECTV will be the single sponsor for 2011 Swimsuit mobile apps, which saw more than 1MM downloads on iPhones in 2010 and will also debut for Android devices in 2011. They are also a sponsor for the first-ever Swimsuit iPad edition.
“Sports Illustrated has always been a fantastic partner and we’re excited that DIRECTV customers will be the first to see who made this year’s Swimsuit Issue,” said Jon Gieselman, SVP Advertising and PR DIRECTV. “It was challenging to find a host who matched the beauty and poise of the models, but Dan was the perfect choice.”
The 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Selection Show will reveal this year’s participating models, as the four exotic locations that provided the backdrop for each of their 2011 shoots are announced. A model from each shoot will join Patrick and Snyder to give viewers an insider perspective from their respective location. Reaching more than 60 million people, and more men 18-34 than the Super Bowl, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit is an established launching pad for successful careers in fashion, TV, film and entertainment.
“There are few events more anticipated than the annual launch of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue,” said Patrick. “The first-ever Selection Show on DIRECTV will give viewers the first-look at what to expect from this year’s issue.”
