US Capital in crisis, according to Showtime Documentary The Other City, exploring HIV/AIDS epidemic in Washington DC
Showtime Documentary The Other City will Premiere In Honor of World AIDS Day Wednesday, December 1st at 7:30 PM ET/PT on Showtime.
Washington D.C. is a place where power and policy intersect, yet in the shadows of the U.S. Capitol lies the reality of a very different city – a city visitors rarely see. Last year, it was reported that 3% of Washington D.C.’s residents are living with HIV or AIDS. How does the capital of the most powerful country in the world become the home of the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the nation – rivaling some African countries? On Wednesday, December 1st at 7:30 PM ET/PT, in honor of World AIDS Day, SHOWTIME will premiere THE OTHER CITY, a documentary that believes politics, ideology, corruption and bureaucracy have led the HIV/AIDS epidemic to grow out of control in Washington D.C., the city that is supposed to represent the best ideals of the United States of America.
THE OTHER CITY tells the stories of Washington D.C. citizens who have taken matters into their own hands and have not let the lack of government assistance stop them from pursuing effective treatment or from fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS every day. The individuals profiled include: J’Mia Edwards, a woman living with AIDS and fighting desperately to keep herself and her three young children from being thrown out of their home; Jose Ramirez, a young man who contracted the disease from a boyfriend – who didn’t disclose he was infected – but now, devotes his life to promoting HIV awareness among Hispanic teens; a one-time addict now living with AIDS, Ron Daniels saves lives by providing clean needles and helping drug users receive treatment; and finally, the staff of the AIDS hospice Joseph’s House struggles to provide solace to terminal patients’ last days, to deal with their own sense of loss, and their constantly declining funding.
The film is directed by Emmy®-and Peabody-winning filmmaker Susan Koch (“Kicking It”) and produced by entrepreneur and philanthropist Sheila C. Johnson. The co-producer is award-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas.

I know all about Aids…I have lost over 100 friends and…It really hurts alot…I lost friends I knew my whole life and…Because they needed blood and the blood supply was tainted and…That Loser Reagan refused to have the blood tested early on…Killed my friends…Who where married and true to each other?
The only way people can protect themselves is to simply get there mate tested….Before having sex with them…Yes I know it hurts there feelings! But if they really want to make love to you…They have to take the test… AMERICA THE SAFE SEX FOR THE FUTURE IS TO GET YOUR LOVER TESTED AND THAT WAY YOU CAN LIVE A LIFE…Me myself..Rather get hit by a bus! Then to get Aids and yes…When I Wanted to get my groove on…The man has to be tested and believe you me? That some men have come up Dirty and that meant…I WOULD HAD FLUSHED MY LIFE AWAY AS WELL.
Remember People there is only one of you and…You have to take care of yourself and…Not let one single person Destroy your life and take away your Health.
I know how Aids started and it is really unfair and massive amounts of people on this earth has suffered and…Today in seattle alone there are 300 people out there still getting infected each year in Seattle and still something is not working and what really needs to be done… Is people should get there partner tested before having sex?
People need to push toward testing there lover and if the other person will not get tested then don’t sleep with them.
Simply say no to a relationship and end it before you start it…A kiss really turns a person on and…When that happens asked the man or woman to go to the clinic with you to get tested for s.t.d.s and if they refuse…Stop kissing them and end the relationship…because if they refuse they have the disease and if they are a no show…then simply don’t go with the relationship.
Safe Sex is getting the person tested and so that way you can stay Healthy and strong and have a future and…Hollywoods needs to start making movies about AIDS AGAIN…People out here are stilling playing dumb.
Too many woman on talk shows don’t know…Who the Daddy and that means this woman are not practiceing safe sex and aids herps and other diseases apply.
I have lost over 100 friends to this disease and even had a cold heartless sister…who did not give a dam and went out and gave people the disease…Heartless people who are creeps and evil are still killing people but HOLLYWOOD YOU CAN DO A GOOD THING AND SAVE LIVES.
