BBC cancels Upstairs Downstairs after two seasons of air, and this piece of news coming from across the pond are going to be somber for the US airings, since the show still has to premiere the second season in The US, and that´s a shame, specially since the first season of Upstairs Downstairs earned six Emmy nominations and a lot of praise. Problem is probably comparisons with Downtown Abbey, that masterpiece from ITV that airs against it.
BBC announcement to cancel Upstairs Downstairs read “From Call the Midwife to Bird Song and The Syndicate, 2012 has been a great year for Original British Drama on BBC1 but at this stage there are no plans for Upstairs Downstairs to return.”
Losing almost half of the ratings from season one to season two is the most probable explanation as to why BBC cancels Upstairs Downstairs, but it´s still a shame.
