Still reviewing the lists of cancelled shows of 2012 and renewed shows of 2012, another show from across the ocean comes to the lists. The same week after ITV renewed Dowtown Abbey for season four, BBC is ending Merlin after this season´s finale and Christmas special. This is not to say that BBC is cancelling Merlin, but rather making it reach its ending as planned.
Co-creators and EPs, Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy, confirm the news of Merlin ending: “This is the series where the storylines truly reach their apex. We always felt the story of the legend was best told across five series, leading to a spectacular finale that draws on the best known elements of this much-loved story and brings to a conclusion the battle for Camelot”.
Still some more episodes to air in which Merlin continues to fulfill his destiny to protect Prince Arthur, battling deadly assassins, magical monsters and the most powerful sorcerers Camelot has ever seen.
Merlin features a powerful ensemble cast including BAFTA Award-winner Richard Wilson (One Foot in the Grave, Demons), Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), John Hurt (Hellboy, Harry Potter) plus Colin Morgan as Merlin and Bradley James as Arthur Pendragon.
