Just as kids will be happy about Lab Rats getting renewed, they will not be so much about this one: Disney Channel is cancelling Shake It Up. The show will not get to the magical number of 100. It will wrap up after 78 episodes, since Disney Channel opted not to pick up the show.
This, by no means is a sign that the network have the show and its stars on anything other than the highest of opinions: They are sticking to the channel and will be in new shows and help launch the new bets like Girl Meets World.
The buddy comedy series “Shake It Up” follows high spirited best friends CeCe Jones and Rocky Blue who land their dream job as background dancers on the most popular teen dance show, “Shake It Up, Chicago!” Now, between learning the latest dance styles, navigating the backstage antics of their “frenemies,” balancing responsibilities at home and their newfound social status at school, the girls encounter plenty of comedic bumps in the road. “Shake It Up” was created by Chris Thompson (“Laverne & Shirley,” “Bosom Buddies,” “The Naked Truth,” “Action”) and is executive-produced by Rob Lotterstein (“The War at Home,” “Ellen”) and Eileen Conn (“Mad About You,” “Just Shoot Me!”).
Contrasting in personality, CeCe and Rocky are lifelong friends and would do anything for each other. CeCe’s impulsive and adventurous nature and Rocky’s measured approach and efforts to keep them on the right track make their friendship that much stronger, as they complement each other like two dancers in a pas de deux. Through their drive and determination they propel each other to keep striving for more.
