Florida has so much to offer as tourist destinations. We´ve already covered Tampa, St Petersburg, Clearwater, as well as an extensive Orlando coverage, and something about Miami. Now it´s time to take a look at the Fort Lauderdale area, which is a great option for a vacation in the lovely sunny state.

Location
The cities from Broward County form the Greater Fort Lauderdale Area, a 25 miles beachfront area in the East, all the way to the Everglades in the West. And it has tons of activities to enjoy. In the South, it limits with Aventura in North Miami, right where the famous Aventura Mall is located, and in the North, it limits with Boca Raton.
Everything from beaches, shopping destinations, parks and nature reserves you can find in the area.

Among the cities that are included in Broward County, the most well know are Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pompano Beach, Dania Beach and Deerfield Beach.

Who should visit the Greater Fort Lauderdale area to enjoy a vacation?

Families traveling or those who want a quieter vacation:
Many people decide to go to Miami for the nightlife, the beaches, and the partying. And when you are strolling down the Collins Avenue, you understand why.
Cities like Fort Lauderdale and the area have a different vibe, less in your face, much friendlier and quite apt for families without having to spend a fortune. And if you want to have nightlife, there is also, but not everything everywhere.

Shoppers galore:

Sawgrass Mills, the biggest shopping outlet in the United States (and the second biggest in the world), is in Sawgrass, just a few minutes away from Fort Lauderdale, and you will have to spend a couple days there to start scratching the surface.

Fishermen´s paradise:
There are tons of fishing tours in the area, and the possibility of having different kinds of waters makes it possible for fishermen to enjoy the same vacation both saltwater and sweet waterways, go deep sea fishing, coast fishing, and a lot more options. There are also fishing options in the local docks, as well as a few big stores like Bass Pro Shops, and even the Fishing Museum and Hall of Fame.

As a base for those wanting to go on a cruise:
In the city, you will find Port Everglades, one of the biggest cruising ports in Florida, where you will find Costa, Carnival, Princess, Royal Caribbean, Seabourn, Silversea, ISE, Holland, Cunard, and Celebrity, as well as a ferry to the Bahamas. You can do a few days prior to your cruise, or after your cruise in Fort Lauderdale and complete your vacation.

Budget vacations:
You will not only find some of the best shopping bargains whether you go to Sawgrass Mills or the malls, or the local plazas, but you will also find much better prices and included / free amenities that you´d get charged for in Miami (parking, WiFi, to name two of the most important).

For food enthusiasts:
There is quite a complete offer in food options, ranging from all origins, types of food and price ranges.

Those wanting to do some Miami, but not all Miami:
Miami, as every big city, can be overwhelming. Maybe you want to rest, sit back, and relax. You will find gorgeous beaches, restaurants, attractions, and first-class hotels. And if you want to do something in particular in Miami, such as watch an NBA game, attend Nascar, or anything else, you are less than one hour away.

To complement an Orlando vacation:
You can do the whole trip to the parks, enjoy Orlando, and then have a few days to recover in the beach and do some shopping.

As you can see, there are tons of options for a vacation in Fort Lauderdale.
