The second season backorder pickup for Scandal consists of 9 more episodes to add to the current run of thirteen, extending it to 22 as the show is getting solid rating numbers, and even increased a tenth in the last airing.

Shonda Rhimes other half ordered show Private Practice is ending this year, clearing a coveted timeslot that will soon be covered by a new drama.

What is Scandal about? Plot Synopsis

Everyone has secrets… and Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) has dedicated her life to protecting and defending the public images of the nation’s elite by keeping those secrets under wraps. Revered and feared at the same time, Olivia, a former communications director to the President of the United States, left the White House to open her own prominent crisis management firm. Her staff are at the top of their game when it comes to getting the job done, but it becomes apparent that these “gladiators in suits” who specialize in fixing the lives of other people sometimes can’t lives closer at hand, their own. In Season Two of ABC’s “Scandal,” the creator and executive producers of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice” will delve further into the behind-the-scenes machinations of this mesmerizing top image-maker and her team.

The accomplished and always loyal staff of Pope & Associates includes Harrison Wright (Columbus Short), a charismatic litigator; Huck (Guillermo Diaz), former CIA interrogator and hacker extraordinaire; investigator Abby Whelan (Darby Stanchfield), who comes from an abusive past, and Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes), the newest and most mysterious addition to the team. Olivia has assembled this group of stray dogs and turned them into a fearsome and loyal pack who will follow her blindly and do whatever is necessary to help a client. But they can never be too careful with the Assistant U.S. Attorney David Rosen (Joshua Malina) tracking their every move.

Meanwhile Olivia may need to exercise some damage control on her own behalf. After having an affair with her former boss, President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn), she has vowed to end the relationship. But the passion between them is hard for either to deny, and manipulative First Lady Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) and ruthless Chief of Staff Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry), who are aware of the affair, use it to serve their own agenda, proving that the Pope & Associates’ clients aren’t the only ones with dirty secrets.
