Cancelled and Renewed Shows 2011: Showtime renews The Borgias for season two

borgias-cancelled-renewed-showtimeYesterday was a bitterseet day for NBC Shows, since Late Night with Jimmy Fallon got renewed, and The Paul Reiser Show got cancelled, but today it was Showtime who brought some much anticipated news. The Borgias is renewed for season two.

Showtime has picked up a second season of its hit drama series The Borgias, it was announced today by David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc.  The series, which debuted earlier this month to critical and audience acclaim, delivered the best ratings for a new Showtime drama series in seven years and attracted 3.71 million viewers across multiple platforms (On Demand, replays and DVR) during its premiere week.  Season-to-date, The Borgias is pacing ahead of The Tudors season four, the series’ highest rated season ever.  Ten new episodes will go into production this summer to air in 2012.

You can still watch the first season of The Borgias airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT through its May 22nd season finale.

This is surely one of the best seasons in recent years when talking about new shows: The Borgias, The Killing, Breakout Kings, Drew Carey´s Improv-A-Ganza, Camelot, and a big large etcetera. Nice to see good quality TV as The Borgias getting a second season.

Borgias Casting News: Holliday Grainger joins as Lucrezia Borgia and Lotte Verbeek as Guilia Farnese

holliday-grainger-lucrezia-borgia-showtime-castingBorgia premiere is getting closer and closer, imagine how close it is, it appears on this week´s must watch on TV.

Let´s remember they already announced Emmanuelle Chriqui to play a guest star role, a little later the show announced Jeremy Irons will play Rodrigo Borgia, Pope Alexander VI, and Colm Feore will play Cardinal Della Rovere. And Joanne Whalley is cast as Vanozza Dei Cattanei in The Borgias. Even François Arnaud is Cesare Borgia & David Oakes is Juan Borgia.

Now we get another great Showtime Casting in The Borgias: Holliday Grainger joins as Lucrezia Borgia and Lotte Verbeek as Guilia Farnese

Pope Alexander VI’s (Jeremy Irons) beloved daughter, Lucrezia, although only 12 years old when the story begins, is already seen as a potential connection to a powerful family that could help strengthen the Borgias’ political position.  Soon, she is wedded to the esteemed Giovanni Sforza, whose family controls Milan, one of the Italian peninsula’s five powerful city-states.  Meanwhile, the new woman in the Pope’s life, Giulia Farnese, is installed in the late Cardinal Orsini’s (Derek lotte-verbeek-guilia-farnese-borgias-showtime-castingJacobi) palace, complete with a secret tunnel leading directly into the Vatican for late-night rendezvous.  Lucrezia forms an attachment to the glamorous Giulia, finding herself caught in an emotional minefield between the new mistress and her displaced mother, Vanozza (Joanne Whalley).  Their friendship grows and soon, Giulia teaches the innocent and naïve Lucrezia that women may seem like powerless pawns, but their beauty, seductive charm and political acumen can be used to steer decisions and situations that ultimately could change the face of history.

Borgias Casting: François Arnaud is Cesare Borgia & David Oakes is Juan Borgia

borgias-casting-francois-arnaud-cesare-borgiaBorgia premiere is getting closer and closer, and with every announcement, the show turns more into a must watch.

Now, they announced that François Arnaud is Cesare Borgia & David Oakes is Juan Borgia.

Meet the Pope’s eldest sons and enforcers.  Protecting a family’s power cannot be done singlehandedly so naturally, nepotism arises as soon as the tunic is slipped over the new Pope’s head.  Pope Alexander VI (JEREMY IRONS) immediately installs Juan as head of the papal armies and elevates Cesare to cardinal — one son in armor, the other in cloth.  Yet both are rivals for their father’s affection.  Cesare serves as “consigliore” and is viewed as the Pope’s likely successor, but Cesare believes he is more capable and qualified than his brother to deal with the violence borgias-casting-david-oakes-juan-borgiaand retribution required to reinforce the family’s domination.  In the meantime, Juan, averse to responsibility and lacking leadership skills, prefers to spend his time in bordellos and taverns, enjoying the ample debaucheries his new status provides.

Borgias Casting: Joanne Whalley plays Vanozza Dei Cattanei

joanne-whalley-casting-borgias-vanozza-cattaneiWe´ve been talking about The Killing, we´ve been talking about Camelot, and there´s for sure a lot of good things to expect from 2011 in Television. But if you ask me, it all starts with The Borgias, and with each announcement the show makes, it moves closer and closer to a must watch as it gets.

Let´s remember they already announced Emmanuelle Chriqui to play a guest star role, a little later the show announced Jeremy Irons will play Rodrigo Borgia, Pope Alexander VI, and Colm Feore will play Cardinal Della Rovere. Now another great addition to The Borgias roster of great actors and actresses: Joanne Whalley is cast as Vanozza Dei Cattanei in The Borgias.

Who is Vanozza Dei Cattanei?

Of all Rodrigo Borgias’ mistresses, Italian noblewoman Vanozza dei Cattanei lasted the longest.  During that time, she gave birth to Cesare, Juan, Lucrezia and Joffre – the children who would become the infamous Italian Borgia lineage.  Once Rodrigo is pronounced Pope Alexander VI, Vanozza is cold-bloodedly cast aside and replaced with a new lover. But while she may not share his bed, she shares the Pope’s intense love for their children and must approach her new, unorthodox position strategically to protect them – and herself – at all costs.

Make sure you Tune in to the 2-hour premiere of The Borgias on Showtime, Sunday, April 3rd at 9PM ET/PT.  Following the premiere, new episodes will air on Sundays at 10 PM ET/PT.

Borgias Casting: Colm Feore plays Cardinal Della Rovere

colm-feore-cardinal-della-rovere-showtime-borgiasIf you would ask me what is the upcoming show I am most looking forward too, there is no doubt here: The Borgias!

And each announcement the show makes, it moves closer and closer to a must watch as it gets.

Let´s remember they already announced Emmanuelle Chriqui to play a guest star role, and a little later the show announced Jeremy Irons will play Rodrigo Borgia, Pope Alexander VI, and just in case, the show will air on Showtime, the same network that brings Dexter and The Big C to name just a few.

Now, another announcement about The Borgias: Colm Feore will play Cardinal Della Rovere in Showtime’s The Borgias.

Who is Cardinal Della Rovere?

Meet Pope Alexander VI’s  nemesis.  Cardinal Della Rovere views the Pope’s  corrupt and blasphemous behavior with disdain and is determined to depose him at any cost.  As he deviously plots a complex scheme and rallies forces against the Pope, Cardinal Della Rovere will inadvertently unleash forces of devastation upon Italy, and bring the full might of the French army to the doorstep of the Vatican.

Do not forget to tune in to the 2-hour premiere of The Borgias on Showtime, Sunday, April 3rd at 9PM ET/PT.  Following the premiere, new episodes will air on Sundays at 10 PM ET/PT.

The Borgias stars Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons as Rodrigo Borgia, the cunning, manipulative patriarch of The Borgia family who builds an empire through the corruption of the holy Catholic Church and orchestrates a relentless reign of power and flamboyant cruelty.  The series begins as Rodrigo (Irons), bribes, buys and muscles his way into the papacy becoming Pope Alexander VI.  The series is set in one of the most significant periods in history: the Western Renaissance and the discovery of the New World. Contemporaries of Da Vinci, Michelangelo and the Medicis, the Borgias were controversial and heretical, not so much for performing acts unheard of in their time, but for being better at it than their enemies. Along the way, the family commits virtually every sin in the book and invented more than a few of their own.  Academy Award®-winning director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) serves as creator, executive producer and writer of all nine episodes, in addition to directing the first two episodes.

First time filmmaker Leslie Zemeckis paints an “affectionate and engaging” (New York Daily News) portrait of the art of burlesque and its relevance in cultural history.  Burlesque was one of America’s most popular forms of live entertainment in the first half of the 20th century.  Gaudy, bawdy and spectacular, the shows entertained thousands of paying customers every night of the week and yet the legacy of burlesque is often misunderstood and left out of the history books.  By telling the intimate and surprising stories from its golden age through the women (and men) who lived it, Behind the Burly Q reveals the true story of burlesque as it experiences a new renaissance.

jeremy-irons-borgias-alexander-pope-rodrigo-showtimeShowtime much anticipated show The Borgias is getting near and near. I really can´t wait to see Emmanuelle Chriqui on TV, But now Oscar winner Jeremy Irons gets the role of Rodrigo Borgia/Pope Alexander VI in Showtime The Borgias. (BTW: You can watch Jeremy Irons on Jimmy Fallon´s).

Meet the original Godfather. Rodrigo Borgia is the ruthless and decadent patriarch of The Borgia family who with the help of his children, bribes, buys and muscles his way into the papacy to become Pope Alexander VI in 1492.  During his notorious reign, accusations ranged from adultery to murder, but nothing could deter his maniacal hunger for power, wealth and mistresses.   Cloaked in controversy and despised by many, the Borgias are the original crime family who centuries later, served as the inspiration for the iconic Corleone Family in Mario Puzo’s classic novel The Godfather.

The series is produced as a Canadian-Irish-Hungarian Treaty co-production.

So, are you going to watch The Borgias with Jeremy Irons as Pope Alexander VI Rodrigo Borgia, or may I say a movie star and icon playing an epic role?

The Borgias Casting News: Emmanuelle Chriqui joins The Borgias

casting-news-emmanuelle-chriqui-borgias-showtimeI just got this casting news about Emmanuelle Chriqui who is set to Guest Star in New Epic Drama Series “The Borgias” premiering in Spring 2011 on Showtime

Emmanuelle Chriqui will guest star on the new Showtime drama series The Borgias in three episodes as “Sancia,” the beautiful and seductive Neapolitan princess who marries the Pope’s youngest son Joffre (Aidan Alexander), even though she has her eye on another Borgia brother.  The series is headlined by Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons and is currently shooting in Budapest for a Spring 2011 premiere.

Emmanuelle Chriqui is best known for her role as the perfect fiancée Sloan on the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated comedy series Entourage.  In addition to television, she also continues to build upon her career in film.  In 2008, she starred alongside Adam Sandler in You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, as well as with Adrien Brody in Cadillac Records.  Recently, she completed production on Red August opposite Andy Garcia, and starred in the independent film Saint John of Las Vegas, opposite Steve Buscemi, and Electra Luxx, the comedy follow-up to Women In Trouble in which Chriqui starred opposite Carla Gugino.

The Canadian born Chriqui moved to Los Angeles and quickly made a name for herself, landing roles in Detroit Rock City, Snow Day and 100 Girls.  However, it was On the Line that marked her first leading role in a studio film. Her other film roles include Wrong Turn, In The Mix, Rick, Waiting, The Crow: Wicked Prayer, and Tortured.  On the small screen, she had recurring roles on both The O.C. and Unscripted, a series from George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh.

The Borgias is a complex, unvarnished portrait of one of history’s most intriguing and infamous dynastic families.  The series begins as the family’s patriarch Rodrigo (Irons), becomes Pope Alexander, propelling him, his three Machiavellian sons Cesare (Francois Arnaud), Juan (David Oakes), Joffre (Aidan Alexander) and his scandalously beautiful daughter, Lucrezia (Holliday Grainger) to become the most powerful and influential family of the Italian Renaissance. Joanne Whalley also stars as Vanossa, the mother of Rodrigo’s children.

The series is produced as a Canadian-Irish-Hungarian Treaty co-production.

So, are you going to watch The Borgias with Emmanuelle Chriqui as guest star, or may I say a hot gorgeous guest star?
