I can´t stop laughing and I had to watch the episode twice (And the Barney Stinson´s speech on how Jesus created the three day rule, a couple more times). Yesterday that great episode aired. Here for you with all How I Met Your Mother spoilers
Complete Recap and Spoilers of How I Met Your Mother 4×21 – Right Place Right Time
Ted got a girl’s phone number at the bar and promised to call. Barney congratulated him because the girl’s name was “Holly,” and girls whose names end in “ly” are always dirty.
“Don’t even get me started on girls whose names should end in ‘ly’ but instead end in ‘i,'” Barney continued. “Those girls are like roller coasters. You’ve got to wait in a long line, but once you get up there, you just hold on for dear life and hope you don’t drop your keys.”
Ted wanted to call Holly right away and play cute, doing the “it’s been so long” bit even though they’d just met. Barney advised against it, citing the three-day rule. Ted said that rule is played out and proposed a new rule, “You like her, you call her.” Barney didn’t understand (“I’m sorry, I don’t speak ‘I never get laid.'”)
Barney went into a speech about how Jesus actually started the three-day rule, because he waited three days to come back to life. Jesus then finally came back on a Sunday, because every one was already at church and thinking he was dead. “Then, ‘Bam!’ He bursts through the back door, runs up the aisle, every one’s totally psyched — and, FYI, that’s when he invented the high-five.”
Ted promised not to call Holly for three days — but he didn’t say anything about texting. He sent her “a little texty text,” and realized it was the lamest thing ever texted. Once it was sent, he couldn’t get it back. A good 23 minutes later, he got a reply — it was Holly saying she was in the bath. Ted gave a “Beavis and Butthead”-like chuckle that Robin called his “naked lady noise.”
He continued texting until 2 in the morning, and again the next day. “She seemed perfect,” old voiceover Ted said. But Robin told Ted that Holly was lying about what she was wearing, when Holly said she was just sitting around reading architecture magazines in her old cheerleader uniform.
Then Ted got a message he thought was meant for someone else. It was something about getting take-out from Genaro’s and wanting to do him later. Later, at the bar, Robin met up with Marshall and Barney. Marshall had take-out from Genaro’s and Robin quickly put it together — they were pretending to be Holly on the other end of Ted’s texts.
Barney admitted to Robin that he knew Ted would try to call Holly before the three days were up, so he took Ted’s phone and switched Holly’s phone number with his work cell phone number. They were just going to make fun of him for calling too soon, “but then he started texting her,” Marshall explained.
The first text came through and Barney and Marshall decided to say they were Holly and say they were in the bath. They laughed. Then Marshall thought they should confess. “Oooor,” Barney said, “we could tell him our favorite color is red, and we think the cowboy look is very sexy.”
Cut to Ted wearing his red cowboy boots, and replying, “I’m wearing them right now, and they do look sexy!”
Barney and Marshall plotted what to text next and eventually realized that with their flirtatious, suggestive texts, they were “about to have sex with Ted.”
They said they were doing it for Ted’s own good, because he had that look in his eye that said he was about to do something crazy — like when he first started going out with Robin.
They said he was showing all the tell-tale signs of saying “I love you” too soon.
1. He joked about getting married. “You like architecture? We should get married. Haha. LOL. Just kidding?” Barney read from the phone.
2. He made a crazy, way-too-soon trip trip suggestion. “I like beer, too. We should totally go to Germany together. LOL. jk. LOL.” Barney read.
3. He got way too personal, way too soon. “Yeah, my parents got divorced a couple years back. It was really tough,” Barney read. “LOL.”
“OK, he clearly doesn’t know what LOL means,” Robin concluded.
Ted wasn’t saying “I love you” as quickly as they thought he would. But then they met Stan, a wise, tough-looking, Barry White-like presence who gave them all the sweet words of love to send to Ted, including a quote from Pablo Neruda. Stan was a night security guard who was having lunch at McClaren’s. Barney and Marshall practically wept and fell in love with Stan as he fed them the lines.
“If Ted won’t say it, I will,” Barney said to Stan. “I love you.”
Robin told them to call Ted and apologize. They agreed, but when Robin left, Barney said, “Ooooor…”
Robin got to the apartment and Ted told her that Holly clarified the text about the take-out. It was a misunderstanding, he said. Her friend Marsha accidentally used her phone to text her husband Billy. “No one sprained any muscles there,” Robin said.
Then she told Ted he was falling for Barney and Marshall. She told him everything. Ted was upset, at first, then decided to mess with them by sending a message of his own now that he knew they were on the other receiving end.
After a little back and forth, he sent, “I probably shouldn’t tell you this, I mean we barely know each other. But what the hell, I’ll just say it…” Marshall read the messages to Barney as they excited waited for the “I love you” they’d been expecting. The next message came in, “I sometimes have gay dreams about my best friend.”
Ted and Marshall argued over which of them Ted was talking about. “Look at you,” Barney said. “A still-in-the-closet 80-year-old wouldn’t be into that mess.”
Marshall argued that he was snugly and Barney wasn’t. “I’m cuddly, bitch,” Marshall said. “Deal with it.”
Barney said his body would rock Ted’s world, and Marshall said that he and Ted have a history. “I know what he likes. There are things I would do to him that would blow his mi–.” Marshall stopped himself and wondered why they kept trying to have sex with Ted.
Robin was with the guys at the bar when Ted showed up, talking about this “crazy dream” he had the other night. Barney and Marshall tried to make him feel comfortable. Then Ted went on for 30 minutes, telling them about a dream he had about eating dinner with his five favorite architects.
They wondered why he wasn’t telling them about the dream he’d had about his “best friend,” so Marshall tried to get it out of him.
Marshall asked Ted about the time in the future when the machines rise against humans, kill everyone and “all that’s left is you, me, and Barney. Which one of us would you, umm, get with?”
Ted asked why he’d want to get with one of them. Barney said the machines were forcing him. Ted decided he’d get with … “Holly.”
Then he stood up and told them he knew what they did. Holly walked into the bar and Ted explained that he tracked her down at work and asked her out. She said she loved that Ted called her right away.
“And, by the way, I don’t sit around my apartment reading architecture magazines in my old cheerleading uniform,” she told them. “I do that completely naked.”
Ted made his “naked lady noise.”
Holly went to wait outside, and Ted said he could take care of himself. He said some girls might not like it that he called too soon or said things too soon, but, “those aren’t the right girls for me. Maybe the right girls is the one who loves that I do those things, because that’s just who I am.”
Then Ted noted that Holli spells her name with an “i.”
Finally, Ted said he’d never — until now — told anybody the truth about what happened on that date. She suggested they get married. Then she suggested they go on a trip to Brazil together. Then she said the doctor told her “it was all cleared up, so I’m good to go.” Then she finally said, “I think I’m in love with you, Ted.”
Old voiceover Ted said he didn’t need to wait three days, but Holli “really, really did.”
He did give this bit of info: “When I got your mother’s number. I called right away.”
Later, at the bar, Stan showed up to the delight of Barney and Marshall while Robin sat with them. Barney and Marshall asked him to stay and Stan said he couldn’t because he had a date.
“You ready, baby?” he asked Robin. She got up to leave with him.
